Bhai Tera Star Hai tries to revive the classic comedy-of-errors formula with a modern twist. Directed by Vivek B. Agrawal, Raghav Juyal is in his first solo lead role, alongside Niharika NM, Sanjay Kapoor, and Parvathy Omanakuttan.
Ajay Singh is a poor actor in London who loses a lot of money in cricket betting and only has a night to repay a gangster. What follows is a series of misunderstandings involving a fake pregnancy, a botched robbery, gangsters, police officers, and hilarious chaos in one night.
Raghav Juyal is probably the biggest strength of the film. His perfect comic timing, expressive body language, and natural screen presence keep the narrative from going flat even when the screenplay gets lost. He is the film’s face on his shoulders and it shows he has the potential to be a big commercial entertainer.
Niharika NM makes a firm Bollywood appearance, and she brings newness and energy to her role. Sanjay Kapoor is a very comical gangster and he comes up with a few entertaining scenes that fit in nicely with the film’s eccentricity.
Vivek B. Agrawal aims to recreate the magic of the classic 1990s Bollywood comedy style of films in which confused identities, rapid confusion, and situational humor are prevalent. The film largely works with a lighthearted laugh while some jokes are a bit of a bore and a few emotional moments are not as impactful. But it gets a little slow in the middle in the beginning, but then comes back to life at the end.
London provides a nice background and the cinematography captures the city’s bright locations really well. The background score is great for the comic scenes and the editing keeps the film moving at a fast pace throughout most of its runtime.
The film is better seen as popcorn entertainment rather than a story-driven comedy. People who are used to logic-heavy storytelling will find some situations exaggerated, but those who like a fun comedy with quirky characters and constant confusion will be having a good time.
Bhai Tera Star Hai is a fun one-time watch with Raghav Juyal in a big way and a few laugh-out-loud moments. While it doesn’t change the comedy genre completely, it is still enough entertainment for the fans of light-hearted Bollywood capers.
