Even after the teaser of Ramayana: Part 1 was released, the movie’s story has been eagerly awaited by fans. And one of the most widely discussed theories among the fans on social media is that the first movie will primarily focus on Yash’s portrayal of Ravan and his rise to power while Lord Hanuman, and the larger Ram-Ravan war will take place in the sequel.
According to fan discussions, Ramayana: Part 1 could explore the origins of Ravan from birth through the early life and all the way to the world of the great ruler of Lanka. We will see how Ravan was able to conquer his half-brother Kubera to take over the golden kingdom of Lanka and become king of the gold kingdom of Lanka as he is one of the most powerful rulers in mythology.
That is because the film might be about Ravan’s incredible penance in the first place, the divine boon of Brahma and his existence as emperor of the three worlds: Swarga Lok (Heaven), Prithvi Lok (Earth), and Paatal Lok (Netherworld). But the film would bring back the character of Ravan to the audience’s attention and give them more information about him, his ambition, his intelligence and his superiority and his power and his rise after the Ramayana war.
An additional reason for this speculation is that Lord Hanuman is only briefly shown in the promotional material released so far. Many fans believe that the filmmakers have purposefully kept Hanuman’s role secret, because his character is expected to play a much bigger role in Ramayana: Part 2, in the search for Sita, the burning of Lanka, and the epic battle against Ravan.
If these fan theories are confirmed, the first film could lay the political and emotional foundations of the epic by introducing key characters and building for the big fight in its sequel. A storytelling strategy that develops Ravan’s empire slowly but surely before it is destroyed could help the filmmakers to explore one of mythology’s most complex antagonists more deeply.
However, the filmmakers still have not publicly confirmed the plot or narrative structure of the two-part saga. Details about the storyline are still not known, and promotional materials are not giving us the picture of the film (and its general tone).
