Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana is full of excitement and Ranbir Kapoor says half of Ramayana Part 2 is already filmed (the first film is out). The update highlights the scale of the ambitious mythological epic that is being shot as a continuous story across two films.

Ramayana Part 2 Shooting

Ranbir explained in an interview recently why the filmmakers decided to shoot a lot of the sequel before the first movie gets released in theaters.

"We're already 50% down shooting Part Two even before the first part is released, because it's a continuing story. But the second part is obviously going to be even larger, even more entertaining," Ranbir Kapoor said.

And the actor’s statement has revived the anticipation of fans who are waiting for what is being framed as one of the biggest movies in Indian film history.

Ramayana is directed by Nitesh Tiwari and a very talented ensemble cast is led by Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Ravana. The film is made a grand production with advanced visual effects, very high-end production design, and IMAX filming to bring the ancient Indian epic to the modern world.

Ranbir told us that the filmmakers are following a production strategy similar to several successful global franchises in which multiple installments are filmed simultaneously for storytelling, performances, and visual continuity.

On the one hand, both films are shot together and so the creative team is able to remain in the emotional flow, and then the actors can do the same but not have long periods of time between shootings. It also allows the actors to stay in character during the entire process.

The discovery that Part 2 is already halfway complete indicates that post-production work on both installments could overlap, helping the makers meet their planned release schedule.

Ramayana is one of the greatest epics ever written so the filmmakers chose to do it in two films which allows more room to explore characters and feelings and large action sequences without rushing the narrative.

The film has already generated massive anticipation due to its star-studded cast, ambitious visual scale, and reported high production budget. Every update of the production has been a big talking point for movie lovers and mythology fans.

The fans were really excited about Ranbir’s interview, and praised the team’s effort to create an authentic and visually impactful adaptation. Many also welcomed his comment that Part 2 will be “even larger” and “more entertaining” than the first film, and that’s also what they want to see in the end.

The filmmakers have kept a few details of the story from us but the production has always emphasized respect for the source material and how to use modern filmmaking technology to bring that storytelling into the theater for a very immersive experience.

With half of Ramayana Part 2 already in hand, the project is progressing to become one of the most eagerly awaited film franchises in Indian cinema. With the end in sight of Part 1, Ranbir Kapoor’s latest update has only raised hopes for what is going to be a truly epic retelling of one of India’s greatest epics.
