When Christopher Nolan's much-anticipated epic The Odyssey will hit theatres on July 17 and fans are rushing to secure their seats in India. But seeing the film in its proper IMAX format is a premium, with ticket prices of ₹3,100 in some cities and is one of the costliest movie releases in India.

The Odyssey has created a lot of interest in the moviegoers because of the talented cast of Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya and several others as well as the ensemble cast, which has audiences excited. The movie has been shot entirely with IMAX cameras, and so there is a demand for premium-format screenings.
Mumbai has the highest ticket prices
Mumbai leads the list for most expensive IMAX tickets.
At PVR ICON, Phoenix Palladium, Lower Parel, recliner seats for multiple shows are priced at ₹3,100. Standard seats are cheaper but still range from ₹700 to ₹1,000; Nolan’s latest spectacle is drawing in a huge audience.
Delhi-NCR Not Far Behind
The movie lovers in Delhi-NCR are also paying premium prices.
At PVR IMAX with Laser, Priya, recliner seats for prime-time shows are priced up to ₹2,500, while several other IMAX screenings are selling recliner seats for around ₹2,100. The standard seats are available between ₹900 and ₹1,100, depending on show timing.
PVR Select City Walk has also premium recliner seats priced at almost ₹2,400 for select screenings.
Bengaluru and Kolkata offer slightly lower prices
While ticket prices remain high in Bengaluru and Kolkata, they are comparatively lower than Mumbai and Delhi.
Premium IMAX screenings in these cities are generally priced between ₹1,000 and ₹1,500, depending on the theatre, seating category and show timing. Advance bookings have already been quite good, and some prime-time shows are already full up.
Advance Bookings Reflect Massive Hype
The steep ticket prices have not dampened audience enthusiasm.
According to reports, advance bookings have been extremely strong in major metropolitan cities (including IMAX and the big screen). Industry analysts expect The Odyssey to be one of the largest Hollywood openings in India due to its popularity with Christopher Nolan and immersive cinematography.
What is wrong with tickets?
Part of the record-breaking ticket prices are linked to several factors:
- Christopher Nolan's massive fan base.
- The film was shot completely with IMAX cameras.
- Limited IMAX screen availability.
- High demand for opening weekend shows.
- Premium recliner seating and luxury theatre experiences.
All of those factors combined have led to a record price for tickets and many prime shows sell out well before they are released.
A Premium Experience for Nolan fans.
The Odyssey will be a theatrical experience that a cinephile’s eye can really appreciate, and one that is best seen in IMAX. Though the premium pricing might be a surprise to many, the overwhelming advance bookings indicate that thousands of Nolan fans are willing to pay extra to experience the director’s latest visual spectacle as it should be seen.
