Nouveau modern-day actors Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna are back in Netflix’s latest courtroom drama, Ikka, which brings two of the strongest actors in an emotional struggle and high-stakes courtroom drama for audiences. A Hindi film from Siddharth P. Malhotra, the Hindi language movie is now available on Netflix and has already got people talking about it and the actors’ characters.
In Ikka, Sunny Deol plays Arjun Mehra, a lawyer who is known as the "Ikka." One of the most prominent lawyers in court, he is forced to defend Shauryaman Gaur (Akshaye Khanna), a wealthy and influential businessman who is accused of attempted murder. An ordinary case of a lawyer vs a wealthy businessman goes to war, and so Arjun finds out that Shauryaman is the only possible bone marrow donor who could save his critically ill daughter.
The unusual setting has Arjun in a very dark moral quandary. As a father, he must protect his daughter’s life at any cost, but he is also obligated to provide his client with the best defense, no matter how much he is emotionally wounded by it. That emotional conflict is the heart of this film and makes for a very difficult one that brings up questions about justice, ethics, sacrifice, and family.
Sunny Deol gives one of his most restrained performances in recent years. Away from his action-hero persona, he portrays Arjun Mehra with quiet determination and emotional depth. His performance has been well-received by audiences who have praised his ability to convey vulnerability and maintain the commanding screen presence that has defined his career.
Akshaye Khanna is again proving why he is Bollywood’s best actor. Playing the dark and privileged Shauryaman Gaur is a complex and subtle role of someone whose true intentions remain in the dark for most of the film. His on-screen chemistry with Sunny Deol is one of the film’s most interesting moments, and there are many courtroom confrontations.
The supporting cast also makes an impact. Tillotama Shome, Dia Mirza, and Akansha Ranjan Kapoor are all emotional and contribute meaningfully to the film’s layered story, adding weight to the emotional stakes. Their performances help to balance the legal drama with personal relationships and emotional significance.
Ikka takes place in the courtroom and combines family drama, suspense, and emotional storytelling around a period of roughly 140 minutes. Director Siddharth P. Some reviewers believe the script could have been tighter, but the film’s intense courtroom scenes and reunion of two accomplished actors have been appreciated.
On the whole, Ikka is a great courtroom thriller driven by strong performances rather than spectacle. For fans of legal dramas and emotional storytelling, the Netflix original is a fun watch that showcases Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna at their best.
