Jonita Gandhi has said that acting is never something she has ever been aggressively interested in.
Speaking bluntly about her career, she said she always hoped to have the opportunity to act naturally not through regular auditions or networking.
As a record singer with many of Bollywood and South Indian cinema’s most popular songs singing in her repertoire to boot she has become one of India’s most versatile singers.
While fans have been wondering whether she would eventually step into films as an actor, Jonita says she never really wanted to be acting at all.
In her career journey, Jonita said, “I wanted acting to happen organically. I didn’t actively chase it.”
And the main focus has always been music, her passion and priority, she said.
Jonita says she thinks opportunities that are good for one’s personality and abilities always come at the right time.
Rather than taking on acting gigs that seemed like a natural progression in her career she preferred to wait for roles that were in the right place where they were actually interesting and she could work on them.
She said although she loves playing in front of audiences during concerts and music videos, acting is completely different, but it takes a different kind of skill set.
If she went to acting in the future she wasn’t interested in getting to do something for her own celebrity profile, she wanted to be able to do something to get involved on something and get to perform for the people.
Jonita has become popular with top 10 hits in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu movies, Kannada and Punjabi films and is popular with young people as well.
Many singers have successfully transitioned to acting, industry observers say, but Jonita's patient approach is representative of her desire to build a career based on genuine interest rather than industry trends.
She will do so, by waiting for the right time and doing the performances that audiences can actually relate to.
Her statement has also resonated with fans who appreciated her honesty about not feeling pressure to diversify her career.

As she has not ruled out acting in general, Jonita made it known that music is always at the heart of her professional journey.
If the right script, character and creative team come along she would definitely take on an acting role.
