Producer KVN Venkat Narayanan has openly discussed the difficulty of bringing Thalapathy Vijay's latest film to theatres and the road ahead of it was so much more difficult than making it. Delaying distribution, censorship, marketing, piracy, theatrical release date, the producer was very happy with the huge response of the audience and Vijay, who is the biggest star of the movie, and the movie did well in the cinema.
KVN Venkat Narayanan spoke to us about the release process and said completing the film was easier than bringing it to the masses in all countries. He admitted that there were some unexpected obstacles to face and that the last week was a continuous effort to go back and forth with distributors and exhibitors in different countries.
The producer said the release date was difficult since there were several big movies that were to be released worldwide. The team had to be able to coordinate the distribution plan to ensure that the new Vijay film was brought to the theatres successfully.
The making of the movie was much easier, but getting it to the screen was a struggle. We did go through quite a bit of hardship for unknown reasons. Our entire focus during the last 15 days was to bring distributors and exhibitors worldwide on board and make sure audiences could celebrate this landmark film on the big screen," KVN Venkat Narayanan said.
The producer also revealed that the movie had unexpected censorship issues. The makers had anticipated a U/A certificate but the film did receive an 'A' certificate, so the team had to adjust its release strategy quickly. The certification and a compressed marketing schedule added to the problem of promoting the film before it was released.
In addition to all this, the production team also faced piracy soon after the movie's theatrical release. Most of the film's audience also watched unauthorized copies instead of seeing it in cinemas (as per KVN Venkat Narayanan).
But despite the setbacks, the producer believes the movie has played very well in the face of these challenges, and it has performed quite well under the pressure. The movie was not released on a holiday, he added, and because of that, unlike holiday periods such as Pongal or the summer vacation (following election results) which typically generate stronger box office collections and so on.
KVN Venkat Narayanan highlighted that the audience response has been amazing in the face of the delayed release, censorship problems, piracy related to the movie, and with no holiday advantage. He identified much of the success of the movie as Thalapathy Vijay's huge popularity, calling him the biggest crowd-puller in Indian cinema.
As the producer said the film’s emotional connection with audiences remains the biggest strength of Vijay’s emotional connection with audiences. His charisma, fan base and big audience and ability to draw families and fans to cinemas has made the movie a celebration which makes the movie a celebration and a movie of the cinema that everybody can enjoy in all parts of the world.
With the film still in theaters, KVN Venkat Narayanan expressed his thanks to audiences for their unwavering support and said that each of them had made every challenge worthwhile. Vijay's box office supremacy is still very much in place and he is very much in love with cinema and moviegoers he believes,” he said.
