Mumbai: Television actor Rohit Chandel, who is known for his work in Pandya Store and Kashibai Bajirao Ballal, has been arrested by Mumbai police in connection with a case involving a 16-year-old girl.
According to the police, the actor was booked under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The case involves stalking, harassment, and physical assault made by the minor.
Complaint Alleges Repeated Harassment
Police officials said the actor repeatedly contacted the teenager using multiple phone numbers and continued to harass her despite her objections.
The FIR also cites an alleged incident that reportedly took place near the girl's residence. Based on the complaint and preliminary inquiry, Mumbai Police registered a case and initiated legal proceedings.
However, the authorities have not detailed any more on the allegations because the complainant is a minor and the investigation is still ongoing.
Produced Before Special POCSO Court
As a result of his arrest, Rohit Chandel was brought before the Special POCSO Court in Mumbai.
The court remanded the actor to police custody to provide investigators time to investigate the allegations, collect evidence, and record statements.
Police will then assess digital evidence, including call records and other documents relevant to the investigation.

Rohit Chandel has not issued any public statement on the allegations.
His legal representatives have also not made any official comment on the matter.
The Mumbai police said the investigation is ongoing and more action will be taken based on the evidence gathered during the course of the investigation.
Legal Process Continues
Cases involving minors are investigated under the stringent provisions of the POCSO Act, as a safeguard of children’s rights and a child-sensitive legal process.
The investigation is conducted in such cases to maintain the confidentiality of the minor and their privacy, authorities said.
It should be noted that Rohit Chandel is under investigation. The actor is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
The case has attracted attention in the television industry because Chandel appears in many popular Hindi television serials as well as in Hindi films and is expected to go through the legal process in the coming weeks.
