Dil Raju is in talks to acquire ‘Ramayana’ Telugu States rights for ₹105 Crore

Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana business buzz is increasing, and the renowned Telugu producer and distributor Dil Raju is also in the process to acquire the film’s theatrical distribution rights for the Telugu states for ₹105 crore - which will help to drive the film’s sales in Telugu states. It has attracted great interest from Tollywood trade circles because it has a huge potential viewership in terms of the scale of the movie and huge expectations for its wide-scale release in India.
Ramayana’s large scale of the movie and popularity of stars and narrative of Ramayana are of interest to many across the region. The Ramayana trailer has attracted attention to the film from its actors and it attracted quite a lot of interest.
Dil Raju is in talks for the theatrical rights of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for around ₹105 crore as we understand it, and we are talking to this company in returnable advance mode so the financial structure might reduce the distributor's direct exposure compared to a pure acquisition. But the deal is still being discussed and has not been officially concluded yet.
The move is like Dil Raju’s involvement in another big pan-India movie Yash-starrer Toxic. His aggressive interest in big-scale movies shows the growing importance of Telugu theatrical markets for major Indian productions. Telugu-speaking audiences are becoming essential for the business strategy of a film with stars from outside the Telugu industry.
The proposed ₹105 crore Ramayana deal is particularly important because the film is based on one of India's most familiar and culturally significant epics. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have long been mythology-based and it is already deeply connected to the story. So Ramayana could benefit from the familiarity of the genre when it reaches Telugu-speaking audiences.
But a ₹105 crore commitment would be a huge commercial bet. To justify such a huge investment, the distributor needs the film to perform well in theatres. Ticket pricing, screen allocation, audience response, competition from other huge releases and the film’s dubbed Telugu version all will determine the film’s eventual theatrical performance.
The scale of Ramayana itself is also the reason for the interest. Ranbir Kapoor plays Rama and Yash plays Ravana and all actors as Lord Rama and Ravana, there is already a lot of interest in the casting. Sai Pallavi is also in the main team and the Telugu audience is also attracted to it. A familiar epic with huge stars and a big-budget movie, this is a big movie and one of the biggest upcoming releases in Indian cinema.
The film is also reported to be in more general commercial activity. The makers have secured big international marketing and distribution deals, but distribution and music rights are also of great interest to the industry.
Dil Raju’s negotiations could be another major step in his strategy of investing in high-profile pan-India theatrical releases. If the ₹105 crore agreement is eventually reached, it would underline the confidence that major distributors have in Ramayana’s potential in the Telugu market.
But the figure at this stage is a report of negotiation and not a final deal. Trade analysts will be watching closely for an official announcement on the Telugu states rights.
When completed, the ₹105 crore deal could become one of the most talked-about theatrical distribution agreements in the Telugu film industry, further demonstrating the enormous commercial expectations surrounding Ramayana.
