Bipasha Basu Opens Up About Postpartum Trolling, Says ‘Insensitive’ Paparazzi Took ‘Bizarre’ Pictures

Bipasha Basu has opened up about the scrutiny she faced after becoming a mother, recounting the “major, major trolling” she faced after the birth of her daughter Devi. The actress, who has largely been absent from the limelight in recent years, said she was in the process of learning to return to the way women’s bodies should be perceived and quickly to the shape that a pre-pregnancy person would have.

Karan Singh Grover and Bipasha welcomed their daughter Devi on 12 November 2022. Since then the couple have been raising and parenting their little girl. Bipasha has occasionally shared some glimpses of her life as a mother but she has also been vocal about the physical and emotional changes that it brings.

Bipasha recently spoke to Elle India about the way women’s bodies are still judged, particularly after labor. She said there is a rather unrealistic expectation on women to regain their youthiness almost immediately after having a baby.

Bipasha emphasized the difference between how society sees age and appearance and said that expectations that are placed on women in their twenties are often unfairly imposed on women in their forties too. Women who do not “bounce back” quickly can become targets of harsh public criticism and trolling, she said.

The actress recalled this scrutiny herself after Devi’s birth. She said she was subjected to huge trolling and also alleges paparazzi photographers took photographs of her that she found particularly insensitive and bizarre. Bipasha’s comments shed light on the pressure celebrities can face when their physical appearance is constantly captured and discussed in public.

The actor also noted that many women do not realize how hard it is to adjust after having a baby. From giving birth to a new baby; adjusting to a new lifestyle and getting to work, while dealing with personal pressures, the postpartum period can be a helluva lot of work. But she said people tend to overlook the woman’s appearance because they don’t measure it.

“Nobody really cares. Everybody expects you to bounce back,” Bipasha said in the interview, showing the disconnect between public expectations and the realities of motherhood.

Despite the trolling and unwanted attention, Bipasha said she has a sense of confidence and does not allow other people’s opinions to influence her decisions. “She knows her path and she knows how she needs to work and when she has to work,” she told us.

Bipasha seems to have learned from it too that she should put off the criticism and just work out of the way. Rather than being affected by social media comment about the people or paparazzi attention or media attention she has to listen to it is not the way she goes about making everything.

Her words also highlight the larger discussion about postpartum body image and the unrealistic standards of women in the public eye. Celebrity bodies are frequently expected to resume professional commitments and regain their pre-pregnancy physique early after childbirth, but recovery and adjustment can differ greatly from person to person.

Bipasha’s decision to speak about her own experience comes at a time when body positivity, motherhood and unrealistic beauty standards are becoming more and more prevalent. By telling of what she went through, the actress has raised the question of the sensitivity that women’s bodies need to be taken into account at all times, especially in the present.

Bipasha has been really loving being a mother of a child but fans are still wondering when she will return to acting. She has already spoken about her professional plans but at present she is still going to be balancing her personal life with her public life and the life in the press.

Bipasha and Karan, who were married in 2016, have frequently spoken of their happiness as parents since Devi came to meet them. Devi has become an integral part of their lives and Bipasha’s latest remarks provide some insight into how difficult it was to come to terms with her role as a mother.

As Bipasha openly talks about postpartum trolling and has also challenged this notion that women should be expected to go back to the body they had before pregnancy. Her message is simple: every woman has her own journey and pressure to meet a timeline should not define motherhood, or a person’s relationship with her body.
