Bollywood Actor Sonu Sood Heads To Flood-Hit Nepal With Aid, Promises Long-Term Support For Survivors
Bollywood actor Sonu Sood has travelled to Nepal to help victims of the recent floods and landslides. The Sood Charity Foundation team of the actor arrived in Kathmandu with food and blankets from India to aid the disaster relief and rehabilitation work in the areas hit by the flood.
Instead of just an appeal on social media, Sood has visited the ground in order to see how the lives of the survivors are affected. When he went to Kathmandu he said that his team had to meet people affected by the disaster and give them their lives back on track.
Sood said his foundation had brought supplies from India and was assessing what affected communities needed most. Food and blankets are among the immediate necessities being provided, while the team is also communicating with people on the ground to identify additional requirements.
The actor also said logistics are always a challenge when relief supplies are sent across the border. However, he continued, efforts would continue and if the foundation needed more help from India, it would do so. His emphasis on continued support is giving the relief mission more than just giving emergency resources to people displaced by disaster.
Sood has said the assistance will be sustained in the coming months. And the actor said they want to give immediate assistance because people who lost their homes and possessions and livelihoods in a disaster need to rebuild their lives after that.
The humanitarian mission was on the way after another disaster struck Nepal on August 26. The floods and landslides wrought great destruction in communities and critical infrastructure. The scale of the disaster has left rescue teams faced with difficult terrain, destroyed roads and bridges and missing people and communities that are difficult to reach. International and regional relief efforts have been carried out in the country.
Sood had expressed solidarity with Nepal soon after the disaster and said he wanted to contribute to relief efforts. In Kathmandu he has now turned that commitment into an on-ground operation. His foundation's team joined him and began to assess the needs of affected communities.
His approach has also been consistent with the humanitarian work that has become a significant part of his public image. Sood became particularly well known for helping people during the COVID-19 pandemic, when his relief campaigns supported stranded migrants and others in need. Since then he has continued to assist in relief efforts and charitable work in times of tragedy.
The scale of the challenge is especially significant in Nepal, however. Emergency supplies are essential in the first phase of a disaster, but recovery can take months or even years when homes, roads, businesses and livelihoods have been destroyed. Sood's pledge to keep sending help is an indicator in this sense that, rather than treating the relief as a single-inning operation, the recovery process is more than one time.
The actor has also visited the areas affected by the disaster as relief efforts continue. He traveled to Trishuli Bazar, one of the worst areas, and met people and witnessed the destruction caused by the flooding, the report said.

Sood’s mission is to be present with people in the most difficult time of their lives. His arrival has also brought more attention to the humanitarian crisis which may also motivate more people and organisations to help to alleviate and rebuild.
As Nepal is slowly recovering, immediate aid is crucial but so is sustained help for families struggling to rebuild. Sonu Sood’s new initiative incorporates both together, with food and blankets being given to those affected and a promise to help affected communities in the meantime.
So the actor's visit to Kathmandu has become more than a celebrity relief appearance. In bringing supplies, meeting survivors and pledging to keep up the support, Sood has put his charity’s Nepal project in place as a way of addressing immediate relief and long-term recovery. For thousands of people still dealing with the effects of the disaster, that kind of support can only be helpful as society slowly begins to rebuild.
