Danish Pandor Joins Aamir Khan’s Lalkaara; Dhurandhar Actor Set For Cricket Drama

Danish Pandor looks set to add another big project to his filmography. The actor who shot to fame for playing Pakistani gangster Uzair Baloch in Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar franchise is said to have joined the cast of Lalkaara. The period sports drama stars Aamir Khan and is directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, more than two decades after Lagaan they are reuniting on screen again.

Pandor has been cast to play one of Aamir Khan’s friends in the cricket-based drama and though his casting is said to be finalised yet makers are keeping details about his character under wraps. Sidhant Gupta (Jubilee) is also said to be part of the ensemble cast.

Pandor joins Lalkaara at a time when casting for the film is still happening. Makers are said to be building up an ensemble cast for period film and several big names are expected to join the project. Earlier it was reported that Vikrant Massey could be part of the project but sources close to the film say that he isn’t on board yet.

From Dhurandhar To Aamir Khan’s Cricket Drama

Pandor’s reported casting in Lalkaara comes after Dhurandhar which made him more popular. As Uzair Baloch he became one of the supporting actors in Ranveer Singh-led franchise. Work with Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal and Rakesh Bedi also made him more mainstream.

The actor has worked in Sacred Games, Double XL and Chhaava before so his reported inclusion in Lalkaara could be another chance for him to prove what he can do (especially as the film is expected to have its cast prepare extensively in period costumes).

For the cricket drama Pandor is reportedly training with Aamir Khan and Sidhant Gupta for cricket. The actors are also likely to go through physical changes as they prepare to play characters related to real life events that inspired the story.

What Is Lalkaara About?

Lalkaara is reportedly set against the backdrop of historic 1952 India-Pakistan Test series. The series has a special place in cricket history as it was the first chapter in sporting rivalry between the two newly independent nations.

Cricket will be mixed with friendship, rivalry, national pride and personal ambition. Instead of being a sports film Lalkaara is being pitched as a period drama that will revisit an important moment in India’s cricketing history.

Aamir Khan will play legendary Indian cricketer Lala Amarnath who was independent India’s first Test captain. The actor will have to prepare physically and perform for the role as it is based on a historical period.

The real-life people that Pandor and Sidhant Gupta will play have not been officially announced yet. So their roles are being guarded so much more than the others that curiosity grows even around the ensemble.

Aamir Khan And Ashutosh Gowariker Reunite

One of the biggest draws of Lalkaara is Aamir Khan and Ashutosh Gowariker’s reunion. They had worked together earlier on Lagaan (2001), the sports drama which went on to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Their return to the cricket genre is therefore significant. Lagaan used cricket as a backdrop for a fictional story set during British Raj whereas Lalkaara is said to be based on real cricket history and real life personalities.

The screenplay has reportedly been written by Piyush Gupta and Neeraj Singh (Gupta has worked on Dangal and Chhichhore; Singh is associated with Nil Battey Sannata). An experienced creative team and a historical sporting subject have attracted a lot of interest around the project.

Lalkaara Production Expected To Begin In November

The film is currently scheduled to go on floors in November 2026, but the casting process is reportedly ongoing so more names may be announced as production approaches.

The reported opportunity is at an important stage for Danish Pandor’s career. After Dhurandhar gave him a boost, appearing alongside Aamir Khan in a major period sports drama could cement him as someone who can play different roles.

As preparations ramp up audiences will be on the lookout for more about the ensemble cast of the film, Pandor and Gupta’s characters, Aamir Khan becoming Lala Amarnath. Lalkaara reunites Aamir Khan with Ashutosh Gowariker again so it is shaping up to be one of the more anticipated Bollywood dramas in development right now.
