Thalapathy Vijay’s much awaited film Jana Nayagan is getting mixed reviews and the Hindi version of this film failed to make a strong start at the box office as it did not make good impact on its opening day. The Hindi dubbed version of the film received around ₹1.5 crore nett on Day 1 from early trade estimates which suggests that it was not well received on the opening day in the North Indian market, which meant a poor opening.
But despite the slow start in Hindi-speaking areas, the film fared much better in South Indian markets where Vijay has a huge fan base. The film had a more promising overall opening as it had very good occupancy in Tamil Nadu and good responses from the rest of the southern states.
Hindi Version Struggles
Trade analysts anticipated that Jana Nayagan would face stiff competition in the Hindi belt as there was little buzz around the release due to limited pre-release buzz, competition from other releases, and Vijay's small market compared to other pan-India stars. The story is different in the South, where Thalapathy Vijay's loyal fans turned out in large numbers to support the film. The high occupancy levels in Tamil Nadu coupled with good collections from Karnataka, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh/Telangana ensured a much stronger start for the film.
The release was celebrated at special shows, theatre performances, and social media trends, reaffirming Vijay's star power in his home market.
Weekend Crucial for Box Office
Hindi trade experts expect the Hindi version to remain quiet this weekend unless good word-of-mouth helps to boost occupancy. But the film's box office performance is expected to be strongly dependent on the South Indian market, and Vijay’s popularity continues to be a major key driver for the movie.
A strong weekend in Tamil Nadu and other southern territories could help offset the relatively weak contribution from the Hindi market.
Now the weekend collections and audience responses are out there in the background and with opening day behind it, all eyes are looking forward to its weekend collections and audience response. With good reviews and family audiences, the film will remain strong in its core markets.
Although the Hindi version has started on a modest note, Jana Nayagan still has the advantage of Vijay’s strong fan following in the South, which is expected to play a crucial role in the long-term box office performance.
