Lust Stories 3 Trailer: Netflix Anthology Returns With Four Twisted Tales of Love and Desire
The Netflix release of the trailer of "Lust Stories 3", a new anthology series bringing together four more stories about love, attraction, desire and the complicated relationship decisions that people make. Vikramaditya Motwane, Kiran Rao, Shakun Batra and Vishal Bhardwaj will be present for the third time in the series where four highly skilled filmmakers are taking on the unpredictable and often messy aspects of human relationships.
In the trailer you can expect romance, humour, emotional tension and unexpected turns. There’s so much more to desire in "Lust Stories 3" than how people can be drawn by attraction that it feels like it’s the story about how attraction is a force and how attraction can affect people, relationships and the way you get them into situations you didn’t know you were getting into. This anthology is made up of four separate cinematic worlds driven by the larger themes of intimacy, choices and emotional vulnerability as well.
The new season has a large ensemble cast - Radhika Apte, Konkona Sen Sharma, Aditi Rao Hydari, Radhika Madan, Sana Thampi, Vijay Varma, Abhishek Banerjee, Siddharth, Ali Fazal and Gurfateh Pirzada. With such a diverse group of performers, the anthology is expected to feature characters from different emotional and social backgrounds, each in the midst of their own complicated situations.
The trailer doesn’t tell you too much about where these stories go. The stories seem to be about attraction and curiosity, insecurity, emotional confusion and the consequences of decisions made in moments of desire. There is also a little bit of light humour in there and scenes that hint at deeper emotional discord.
Vikramaditya Motwane has explained he was drawn to the idea of examining what happens when the comfort of everyday life meets the desire for something unexpected. What he did in this space, his story told him, was warm, funny and unpredictable and I feel that is how he was able to make the process of telling that story.
Kiran Rao also emphasized the difficulties in attraction that are so much more than the first spark. Her story is all about curiosity and desire leading people to do things they might normally not and ultimately causing them to find themselves in unexpected ways. Rao said that because of the anthology structure she was able to experiment with intimacy and humour and follow their impulses.
Shakun Batra has contributed to the emotional ambiguity of relationships. His story is about the ways that people might not understand what they are feeling; how love is insecure, attraction is insecure and frustration is the same thing. Batra does not judge his characters or give them answers. The filmmaker is able to see humour in these complicated emotional situations as well.
Vishal Bhardwaj contributes another perspective to the anthology. He describes desire and imagination and the stories people create in their own minds, and the emotions that they are reluctant to share with anyone. His part also focuses on identity, self-expression, and the question of who gets to tell stories about desire. That is one of the reasons the journey is funny and emotional, Bhardwaj adds that this character is finding her voice.
The main attraction of "Lust Stories 3" is that four filmmakers with very different storytelling skills come together. Motwane, Rao, Batra and Bhardwaj each have a reputation for a narrative that is character-driven, and having them have that experience allows the anthology to address a common theme from four very different points of view.
The franchise has long received much attention for its open and honest portrayal of relationships and intimacy and the third instalment appears to continue this trend with new characters and situations. The trailer suggests that the latest chapter will not only address romance but also the emotional consequences of wanting something that may disrupt an existing relationship or challenge personal boundaries.
With a collection of excellent directors and actors and complicated stories built on this mix, "Lust Stories 3" is already a big deal to Netflix viewers. The anthology will look at desire from many angles, drama and humour and introspection.
"Lust Stories 3" will be released on Netflix on September 18. Four filmmakers will bring their own take on love, attraction and emotional chaos to the screen, and the anthology will be another collection of unpredictable stories about the beautiful messiness of human relationships.
