Marathi actor Medha Manjrekar, wife of director and actor Mahesh Manjrekar, has been diagnosed with cancer. She shared her fears in an emotional Instagram post, and thanked those who had been there for her on one of her toughest days.

Medha didn’t even care about her illness; she wanted to celebrate the love and care her family, doctors, friends and well-wishers gave to her. She also shared photos of her in the hospital and described how the experience changed her perspective on life and the way she thinks.
And then there are those one-time experiences that change your life forever. This has been one of them, she wrote. As she is about to make her final visit to the doctor and her birthday is soon to come, Medha said she looked back not at the diagnosis, surgery, chemotherapy or radiation but at the kindness, love and compassion in her life.
She said her cancer patients were all the ones who helped her to get through, and she felt never alone in her cancer struggle.
I’ve been told so many times, “How did you get past it?” And I never got through it alone. I had to look for someone to walk next to me every time I just couldn’t move forward anymore. When I look back on it now, I know those were not coincidences. That was God’s way of holding my hand," she wrote.
Medha said that in her illness she felt more confident in her spiritual beliefs. “I stopped thinking of ‘Why me?’ and just surrendered my faith to see that in each situation, God had purpose. God wasn’t in a divine form but in the people who cared for me—doctors, nurses, family members, friends, even strangers who were a source of strength.
One of the most touching parts of her message was dedicated to her daughters Saiee Manjrekar and Gauri Ingawale. Medha wrote that although mothers hold their children’s hands for most of their lives, her illness reminded her that there comes a time when children start holding their mother’s hand instead.
She also thanked her husband Mahesh Manjrekar for being with her through so many difficult times and said that some battles are not meant to be fought alone.
She mentioned her extended family and close friends and said they visited her frequently, prayed with her, made her laugh and kept her from having treatment in isolation. She remembered thoughtful gestures—friends bringing her favorite food during chemotherapy to one telling her to drink cranberry juice over a champagne glass to keep her spirits up.
Her emotional post was immediately supported by Marathi film industry actors and actresses. Swwapnil Joshi, Neena Kulkarni and Nehha Pendse wrote to her to wish her strength and a speedy recovery and fans flooded social media with love and encouragement.
Her notable roles in many of the best-known Marathi films and Hindi movies, Medha Manjrekar’s insightful and honest messages have been heard many times in many films and Hindi films and her voice of her own in many films as well as the Marathi films.
