The upcoming mythological epic Ramayana is also expected to be a major global marketing campaign for a major Indian film. Sony Pictures is estimated to invest around 25 million (about ₹235 crore) on worldwide promotion of the movie and the makers are said to contribute an additional USD 15 million (around ₹140 crore).

If the figures are correct, the global marketing budget for Ramayana: Part 1 will be USD 40 million (about ₹375 crore) and will remain one of the most expensive promotional campaigns in the history of Indian cinema.
It is also reported that Sony Pictures’ involvement with the project is through a FOC (Free of Cost) marketing arrangement where the marketing cost will be shared between the studio and producers. This massive collaboration shows that Ramayana is a global cinematic event for the filmmakers, and not just a domestic one.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana has already been generating huge interest among moviegoers. Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Rama and Yash as Ravana and will be the most beautiful, with world-class visual effects to bring the ancient Indian epic to life on an unprecedented scale.
The production budget of Ramayana: Part 1 is estimated to be around ₹1,100 crore. When the estimated worldwide marketing expenditure is added, the overall investment in the film is expected to touch ₹1,500–1,600 crore, making it one of the costliest Indian film projects ever mounted.
The filmmakers are trying to reach a worldwide audience so much so that they are spending a lot on international promotions, international premieres, digital campaigns and strategic partnerships in key global markets. The film's universal themes and an array of cutting-edge visual effects and big-story storytelling should take it far beyond India, industry experts believe.
The project has already attracted international attention with recent appearances by the cast at global events. The teaser, trailer and other promotional material for Ramayana should be released soon and new standards will be set in Indian cinema.
Although the budget numbers have generated widespread excitement on social media, the producers have yet to officially confirm the exact production and marketing costs. But the ambitious scale of the project has only increased expectations that Ramayana may become one of the biggest cinema spectacles ever produced in India.
If the investments are real, Ramayana: Part 1 will transform the scale of Indian filmmaking as well as be a global benchmark for global marketing, and this is a step towards the industry’s ambition to compete with the world’s biggest movie franchises.
