Ranveer Singh is preparing for his next big project after Dhurandhar (2016), one of the year’s biggest box office hits. The Bollywood star is going to start shooting Pralay, a zombie thriller from Jai Mehta, in late October. The production will halt around Diwali and this will give him time off from working with Deepika Padukone as he and his wife are about to have their second child.
Pralay will go on floors next month and continue filming through the festive season, and then production will temporarily halt before resuming with a second schedule sometime in 2027. The film has yet to be officially announced but is already seeing huge buzz as Ranveer's next big theatrical project.
Directed by Jai Mehta, Pralay is described as a zombie thriller, a genre rarely explored in Bollywood. The screenplay was written by Mehta and Vishal Kapoor, who also wrote Lootere in collaboration. The film’s cast, release date and production scale have not been disclosed but industry vets say it’s a new kind of horror and survival story.
It is also Ranveer Singh's first new film after Dhurandhar and its sequel Dhurandhar: The Revenge, the action franchise became one of the biggest commercial hits of recent years strengthening the actor's position as one of Bollywood's leading actors.
The planned production break has a personal reason behind it. Ranveer is expected to step away from the shoot around Diwali to spend time with Deepika Padukone as the couple are preparing for the arrival of their second child.
Ranveer and Deepika got married in Italy in 2018 in a lavish ceremony and had their first child, daughter Dua in September 2024. Since getting married, the couple has kept the family away from the public as much as possible and only occasionally share the story of their journey but for the sake of their daughter's privacy.
Earlier this year, the couple announced that they were expecting their second child through a joint social media post of Dua taking a positive pregnancy test. Deepika is now in her final trimester of pregnancy.
Deepika Padukone is also in a packed work schedule; Ranveer has been preoccupied with Pralay. She has just completed an entire shoot schedule for Siddharth Anand’s King and will be reunited with Shah Rukh Khan after Jawan. She is also a part of the ambitious science-fiction action film Raaka from director Atlee in which she plays opposite Allu Arjun, adding another big-name project to her growing filmography.
Ranveer Singh seems ready to try out a genre that has not had a lot of success in Indian movies in the mainstream. With Pralay, he is also taking steps to break out of the family and work with Pralay, and with the actor taking a break from work to pursue family life, the actor is embarking on a new chapter in his professional and personal life.
When it does come to the movies, Pralay will be one of the most eagerly awaited Bollywood films in the future, and fans are eagerly awaiting an official announcement from the makers. It is already shaping up to be a unique mix of horror, action, and suspense when it reaches the big screen.
