Taapsee Pannu is coming back to Netflix with a new role to prove it. She is going to play Gandhari, a deeply emotional action-thriller about a mother’s desperate search for her missing daughter. It is produced and written by Devashish Makhija and Kanika Dhillon and will be released on Netflix on September 03.

The upcoming movie is another collaboration between Taapsee Pannu, Kanika Dhillon and Netflix after the success of the "Haseen Dillruba" franchise. But "Gandhari" moves away from the romantic mystery space of those films and takes the actor on an intense action-driven story centered around motherhood, sacrifice and determination.

Pannu plays Bani in "Gandhari", a mother whose life is upended when her child is kidnapped. She does not just accept things as they are or wait for someone else to pick up the pace but she goes on an all-out search for her child. And so she is faced with difficult situations and difficulties that test her physical and emotional toughness.

At least the first look at Bani as a person has shown us what kind of character she is. Taapsee is hard-headed and determined, and the image of a missing child in the background suggests the story is very much alive. The film’s promotional materials suggest that Bani’s search is going to lead her into dangerous territory and that a mother’s emotional desperation is going to become a force for action.

What Is Gandhari About?

"Gandhari" is based on the mother’s courage to hold on when her child is missing. The story is based on the values of belief, hope and courage and Bani is at the center of an ever more difficult struggle.

According to the film the mother-daughter story is the same as the action thriller. Bani is not just a grieving parent. She is a person who is part of the search and faces the most extraordinary courage and physical stamina.

I believe the story is going to show how far a person can go when everything they care about is on the line. For Bani, finding her daughter is no longer so much about the truth as a fight for herself.

Taapsee Pannu’s New Avatar

Taapsee Pannu has performed in physically demanding and emotionally intense roles before, but "Gandhari" will be regarded as one of her most difficult. The actor's character relies on emotional vulnerability but also physical strength, which is a far cry from her Netflix performances.

As Rani in "Haseen Dillruba" and "Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba", Pannu’s return to the platform is especially eagerly awaited. Her collaboration with Kanika Dhillon has already given rise to many complex emotional characters, and "Gandhari" seems to have taken that collaboration to a darker and more action-oriented direction.

Gandhari Cast

In addition to Taapsee Pannu, the film also has an ensemble cast of Ishwak Singh, Chhaya Kadam, Swastika Mukherjee, Mita Vashisht and Jatin Sarna. Their presence adds to the complexity of a story, which seems to be based on complex characters and an emotionally charged plot and an emotionally rich story.

Devashish Makhija, with an eye for a very intense and socially rooted story, is the director. Kanika Dhillon has written and produced the project and a creative team to deliver a story that is emotional and action-driven.

Netflix Collaboration Continues

Netflix India has described "Gandhari" as a bold and emotionally charged action thriller that transforms a mother’s love into a fierce and instinctive force. Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh, Director, Original Films, Netflix India, said the platform was pleased to reunite with Taapsee Pannu and Kanika Dhillon and take their creative partnership in a different direction under Makhija’s direction.

The film is therefore important as Taapsee Pannu’s latest OTT project and as another collaboration of Netflix and a creative team that has already delivered successful stories on the platform.

With motherhood, mystery, action and emotional drama, "Gandhari" is most likely to be one of Netflix India’s most eagerly awaited September releases. Taapsee Pannu’s character transformation into a determined mother willing to deal with seemingly insurmountable problems is likely to be one of the film’s biggest attractions.
