Bollywood star Varun Dhawan and wife Natasha Dalal went through a weird home buying experience before settling in a new luxury residence in Mumbai's upscale Juhu neighbourhood. The Free Press Journal reported that the celebrity couple had been interviewed by a member of the housing society before getting a call about buying a home in the high-end residential building.
The couple purchased an apartment in Twenty, a high-end residential project located on 10th Road, Juhu, an area that houses several celebrities of the Indian film industry. Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn and other famous Bollywood actors live in the area.
The housing society follows a unique screening process for prospective homeowners, the report says. Before the sale of an apartment, the society member talks to prospective buyers to see if they are fit for the community, it said.
As an insider told the Times, Varun Dhawan and Natasha Dalal went through the informal interview process and were able to clear it well.
Varun and Natasha both passed it with flying colors. The nervous society loved the DNA of the Dhawan-Dalal couple. Varun covers the Bollywood superstar fame angle while his wife belongs to a business house, so the socialite slant was covered. In other words, they had the right ingredients to make the perfect society couple.
The report also stated that the society member agreed to hand over the property only after being satisfied with the couple during the interaction.
Such screening methods are not common in Mumbai but some of the top residential societies in Mumbai have stringent approval processes for new residents. This could include background checks, meetings with managing committee members or informal visits to keep the community standards and compatibility of the new residents high.
Neither Varun Dhawan nor Natasha Dalal has commented on the interview or the home-buying process. The housing society has also not made any official statement about the claims.
Varun Dhawan is one of Bollywood’s most popular actors with many hits and he is married to the actress. Natasha Dalal, a fashion designer and entrepreneur, has mostly stayed away from the limelight.
The interview has attracted a lot of coverage on social media and fans have expressed surprise that even celebrities could have to apply for approval before buying homes in some of Mumbai’s most exclusive residential communities.
