Indian entertainment industry is shattered after the death of actor Ananya Raj (aged 27). Her family confirmed her death in a post on social media and said she had been physically and mentally ill for more than a year. But they said she died peacefully in her sleep, and the news was out nearly a month later.

Ananya Raj was an emerging actress who worked in Hindi and regional cinema. Although her career was relatively short, she managed to make a strong impression with her performances in different genres of entertainment. Born and raised in Mumbai, Ananya entered the entertainment industry with a vision of making it in Indian cinema. She appeared in a lot of movies and music videos and gradually developed a loyal fan base.
Her Bollywood career started with the thriller 7 Hours to Go in 2016, which brought her to mainstream Hindi cinema. While the film introduced audiences to her, it was only a blip-screening of a promising career. She also appeared in The Final Exit (2017) - a psychological thriller that showed her acting ability. She managed to get into movies and audiences, and those big roles were the first things she did to be noticed.
Ananya received more exposure for her role in Vikram Bhatt’s supernatural horror film Ghost (2019). The suspenseful narrative and horror elements of the film increased her visibility and are still among her most celebrated works. Her performance in the film received great applause from fans of horror and showed her skill in the field.
Ananya also tried her hand in regional films; in Thaggede Le, she acted in Telugu, and it got her to the mainstream of Bollywood audiences. She was in the trilingual film Madrasi Gang as well, so she was able to make a range of films and work in many languages. Her talent and dedication towards acting were very much evident in the various projects she did.
People from many actors and film industry members of her work and fans grieved for this young actress and other actors as well as industry organisations who came together on social media. AICWA (All Indian Cine Workers Association) and others were among those who gave her a lot of grief and saluted her as a great actress and a very promising performer with a bright future in Indian cinema.
Ananya had been under chronic physical and mental stress for over a year, but had fought her way out of her difficulties with resolve, her family said. Her loved ones describe her as a strong and brave woman and said they are in grief and would like privacy.
Ananya Raj’s life and career came to an abrupt end, and although the films 7 Hours to Go, The Final Exit, Ghost, Thaggede Le and Madrasi Gang all left an impression on us, we never had the chance to see her in her world. And as the tributes pour in, she will be remembered not only for the work she did on screen but for the dedication and passion she had for her work.
