Yami Gautam is to headline a new fantasy family entertainment with Nayyi Navelli which will be released in theatres on October 16. The film is produced by Aanand L Rai and presented by Amazon MGM Studios and Colour Yellow as a holiday movie to bring families and audiences together.
Nayyi Navelli is what it has been called, as the filmmakers have described it as fantasy, humour, family dynamics and unexpected twists are woven into the film. With the movie releasing in October, when we are in the middle of the holidays, the movie will be a light-hearted comedy with a supernatural element to it but also a family context.
Directed by Balaji Mohan, Nayyi Navelli is written by Himanshu Sharma and Divy Nidhi Sharma. According to the film's official synopsis, the bride's brother-in-law begins to wonder if his seemingly ideal sister-in-law could actually be a *daayan*, or witch. The supernatural suspicion is going to be the heart of the film's humour and mystery and twist.
Nayyi Navelli is a nice mix of fantasy and family comedy. The supernatural element isn’t a purely scary element, but rather it seems to provide both chaos and entertainment. An apparently perfect family life and the possibility of a supernatural secret would provide the story with lots of comic scenes.
The Meerut setting is also likely to play a huge role in the family atmosphere of the film. By placing extraordinary circumstances inside an ordinary household, Nayyi Navelli wants to create a world where fantasy meets with everyday family relations.
Aanand L Rai Backs the Fantasy Entertainer
Producer Aanand L Rai has expressed confidence in the unusual concept and the creative collaboration behind the movie. “Nayyi Navelli” is one of those stories that will shock you at every turn and I remember being so interested in how the script combines family, fantasy, humour and adventure,” he said.
Rai also described Yami Gautam as an instinctive choice for the central character, highlighting the warmth and mischievous quality she brings to the role. The producer was also excited about collaborating with Amazon MGM Studios for the project and how wild the ride was for the audience.
The film’s release date is also celebrated as an ideal festive opportunity by the makers. Nikhil Madhok, Director and Head of SVOD Originals, Prime Video India and Amazon MGM Studios, complimented Yami Gautam's performance and said that the team felt the film was particularly suited to the Dussehra period.
With October 16 now set as the theatrical release date, Nayyi Navelli is being presented as a potential Dussehra family outing.
Yami Gautam on Choosing Original Stories
Yami Gautam has also been positive about the project and its original idea. At the Amazon Prime Video slate announcement event, she expressed her appreciation for original ideas and said she expects Aanand L Rai, Himanshu Sharma, Balaji Mohan, Amazon and MGM to produce something special.
Yami can also have this as a different sort of role. The fantasy-family format allows her to explore a character in a world that mixes humour and supernatural elements and we’re able to leave some of her more serious recent performances behind.
She has also expressed hope that the film makes the audience think that it’s worth seeing, and that it’s worth it, particularly when you’re in a theater.
Yami Gautam’s Recent Work
Yami Gautam has continued to experiment with different roles in recent years. Recently, she appeared in Dhurandhar: The Revenge (Short movie) as Nurse Shazia Bano. She also appeared in Haq opposite Emraan Hashmi.
Yami portrayed Shazia Bano in Haq as a woman who goes to court after Abbas Khan, her lawyer husband, declares triple talaq and leaves her without financial support for herself and her children. The role was completely different from the fantasy-driven world of Nayyi Navelli.
So her next film will have another genre shift from socially grounded drama to a more playful combination of fantasy, comedy and family entertainment.
Nayyi Navelli is a different kind of Hindi film in the present. With a release date on October 16, a festive atmosphere and a mystery behind a mysterious bride who may not be what she seems, it makes the film an appealing one for those looking for a nice fun holiday movie.
