Brad Pitt has opened up about one of the darker moments of his life that led him to think about suicide when family problems at home and that he was feeling suicidal as a result of family stress and hard times did. The 62-year-old actor spoke out in an interview with Esquire about how emotional pain so severe that he can understand why someone might consider death as a source of relief.

Pitt was careful to emphasize that he did not intend to act on those thoughts. Rather, he described the experience as reaching an emotional low point where the pain became almost impossible to bear.

He said it was so oppressive that he could almost physically imagine the feeling of a bullet lodged in his head. The actor said the thought was relief from the overwhelming emotional pain, not to take his own life.
Pitt also credited his survival instinct for getting him through that time. He said he’s an optimistic person and that keeping on moving forward ultimately helped him through some of the toughest times of his life.
Pitt’s comments come after years of painful personal difficulties. His highly publicised divorce from Angelina Jolie was finalized in 2024 after an eight-year legal battle.
The former couple has six children and Pitt has been reported of strained relationships with several of them. Some of their children have even dropped the Pitt surname from their names. However, Pitt did not specifically attribute his comments in the Esquire interview to any particular family member or incident.
The actor has also been mourning his mother Jane Pitt, who died in August 2025. Pitt also spoke about grief and how it affects us to lose a parent.
