The former reality TV presenter who went to jail for a high-profile revenge porn case in which he was caught breaking a restraining order after breaking a judge’s order that would protect the victim is in jail for failing to comply with the requirements under the court and has been accused of violating his name.

Authorities in the UK took Bear into custody for allegedly contacting or engaging in behavior that breached the conditions of the restraining order issued against him, the British police said.

Police were investigating Bear’s behavior because he was “putting up with and ignoring the restraining order and harassing the victim,” the judge said.

Bear had failed to comply with the restrictions imposed on him, the court ruled, and so the judge found that he had knowingly breached the order and gave him a second jail sentence.

The length of the sentence will depend on the court’s decision but the conviction underlines the seriousness of breaches of protective orders in the UK.

Stephen Bear first gained fame on British reality TV shows including Shipwrecked, Ex on the Beach and later winning Celebrity Big Brother UK.

His outgoing personality and controversial public image were a familiar one in British entertainment. His career took a dramatic downturn following legal proceedings involving the unlawful sharing of private intimate footage.

In 2023, Bear was convicted for secretly recording and sharing explicit footage of his former partner without her consent.

The case became an international story, and raised many questions in the UK about online privacy, digital abuse and the misuse of intimate material. He was sentenced to prison and was also subject to legal restrictions once he was released.

Restraining orders are generally issued by courts to protect victims from further contact or harassment. Violating these orders is a criminal offence and can result in immediate arrest, additional prison time, or other legal penalties.

Legal experts say that such measures are intended to make victims feel safe after criminal proceedings conclude.

Bear’s conviction has once again led to debates on social media about accountability, victim protection and the responsibilities of public figures. Most users said restraining orders are done to protect people, and that courts have to follow through on them, no matter who they are, regardless of celebrity.

As long as people are released from prison, it is clear the court demands that they do all the legal duties that they have to meet all the conditions they have been ordered to do so. Failure to do so will result in more criminal charges and further prison time.

Stephen Bear's television career once put him among the best known reality stars in Britain and yet he has been repeatedly in trouble so much more than just with the law, it has been a big shadow over his career.

The court must respect court orders and protect victims, and police should be able to do the right thing by the victims through effective legal enforcement, the authorities also said. It is the latest ruling that breaches of restraining orders can prove catastrophic under UK law.
