Jacob Elordi’s new post-apocalyptic thriller The Dog Stars is buzz-worthy worldwide but has become an obstacle to its Indian release.
While the film is already out in a few international territories, in India moviegoers are not getting showtimes and ticket booking.
Directed by award-winning filmmaker Ridley Scott, The Dog Stars stars Jacob Elordi, Josh Brolin, Margaret Qualley, Guy Pearce and Benedict Wong. Based on Peter Heller’s bestseller, it is about Hig, a former pilot who is trying to survive in a world destroyed by a pandemic of extreme horror.
No Shows Showing Up on Indian Booking Platforms
The biggest problem for Indian fans is the lack of confirmed showtimes on major movie-booking platforms.
BookMyShow listings for cities like Greater Noida, Thane, Kolkata and Trichy show “August 28, 2026” as the release date, but no bookings have opened in those cities.
In fact, there is a growing speculation amongst fans that The Dog Stars may not get released in India, or that there could be bookings closer to the release date.
But the lack of showtimes should not be taken as an instant cancellation of the India release. As scheduled by cinema chains, distributors and local release plans, booking platforms can adjust schedules at different times.
What Is The Dog Stars About
The movie takes place in a post-apocalyptic America after a devastating flu pandemic nearly wipes out humanity.
Elordi plays Hig, a civilian pilot who lives in isolation with his dog and Bangley, a tough former Marine played by Josh Brolin.
Their lives are upended when Hig learns about a new radio transmission that suggests other people still might be alive. He then goes off into a dangerous world to find out what’s the answer and if he can go on to rebuild his life.
International Release Is Moving Ahead
Internationally, the film is scheduled to be released on August 28. 20th Century Studios indicates August 28 as the official release date and the movie has already begun to be shown in overseas cinemas for advance screenings and ticket information.
The film has also received mixed early reviews. While some critics have praised its emotional elements and performances, others have criticized its pacing and storytelling.
For Indian audiences, the most important question now is whether The Dog Stars will receive a wider theatrical rollout or only a limited release.
And until the distributor or cinema chains give official word and bookings are opened, fans may have to wait for bookings to go live.
