Bengaluru film director and actor Om Prakash Rao is in trouble after a complaint was filed against him for taking Rs 3.85 crore in the preparation of the new movie Phoenix, with no return of the money. The complaint has been submitted to the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner through Byadarahalli police station.
According to the complaint by Bhaskar Shetty, the filmmaker promised to return the money in six months. But six years have passed, and the money has not been repaid.
Rs 3.85 Crore taken for film production
Om Prakash Rao approached Bhaskar Shetty over the production of a movie named Phoenix. Shetty claimed he provided Rs 3.85 crore towards this project.
The financial transaction took place on September 23. Rao had promised the complainant that the entire amount would be returned within six months, he added.
But the complainant says that the promised repayment did not happen.
Money Did Not Return (Three Years Later)
According to the complaint, nearly three years have passed since the money transaction, but the money is still owed.
Bhaskar Shetty claimed that he repeatedly contacted Om Prakash Rao seeking repayment. According to the complaint, the director gave different reasons and continued to delay the repayment.
The complainant further alleges that Rao has recently become difficult to contact and has allegedly avoided communication about the money.
But the allegations are part of a police complaint and have not been independently established as fact.
Complainant Alleges Threats
In many instances, the complainant also claimed to have been threatened when he tried to recover the money.
According to Bhaskar Shetty's complaint, he went to Om Prakash Rao's residence to ask about the repayment. He claims that he was threatened during the confrontation.
The complainant has also claimed it was attempted to intimidate him by accusing him of creating a disturbance.
Now these allegations are part of the complaint to the police, and further investigation would be needed to establish the facts surrounding the dispute.
Complaint Submitted to Bengaluru Police
After the incident, Bhaskar Shetty approached Byadarahalli police station and submitted a complaint to the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner.
The complaint asks for appropriate legal action against Om Prakash Rao over the aforementioned financial transaction and subsequent events.
The complaint has brought new focus to the financial and production details of the Phoenix project.
Director's Response Awaited
Om Prakash Rao has not been quoted in the complaint’s allegations, and his response to this will be important in the next few weeks.
At this stage, the allegations of Bhaskar Shetty should be treated as claims contained in a police complaint and not as established findings of wrongdoing. Whether anybody committed any offence and whether the alleged amount was taken under the circumstances described will depend on the evidence and any subsequent police or legal proceedings.
