The new Tamil film Bang Bang, headed by Sam Rodrigues, has attracted a lot of attention after its female lead actors were not mentioned on the film's poster. Director Sam Rodrigues now confirms that the film does have two essential female actors in the movie, Anukeerthi and Tharnika, but both actresses have action sequences.
In response to a question about why the heroines were not visible on the poster and whether they were actually part of the film, Rodrigues confirmed that Anukeerthi and Tharnika are the two female leads. But he said that their characters are not just romantic partners for the male protagonists.
The director said that both actresses play a big part in the action-centric narrative. Anukeerthi has also appeared alongside Vijay Sethupathi in DSP and has martial arts training and is a natural fit for the physically demanding scenes in Bang Bang as well.
Tharnika, too, has previously portrayed a police officer in Kombusevdi, adding yet another action-oriented experience to her profile. Rodrigues said both actresses had more training prior to filming, including handling and firing guns for their roles.
The director’s comments imply Bang Bang is trying to give its female characters more to do than just being romantic partners. Their involvement in action sequences could make them central characters in the film’s central narrative.
The movie has Prabhu Deva and Vadivelu playing the lead roles, while Babloo Prithveeraj is playing the antagonist. The film databases list Sam Rodrigues as director and writer, while Yuvan Shankar Raja is composing the music.
Rodrigues also said that the Mumbai-based newcomer Sneha is part of the cast and plays Vadivelu’s wife. Besides the main cast, the film has some newcomers in various roles.
In addition to the new faces and established actors, Bang Bang has an ensemble cast. And the director’s comments suggest that the film is actually taking on an action entertainment role where supporting characters also have a place in the story.
For Anukeerthi and Tharnika, the film could provide an opportunity to develop action-oriented roles. Their reported training with firearms and action choreography indicates that their characters are going to be at the center of the film’s conflicts rather than just onlookers.
The movie’s core team of Prabhu Deva, Vadivelu and Babloo Prithveeraj has already attracted interest and the presence of Yuvan Shankar Raja brings another major name to the technical team. Bang Bang is currently a Tamil production, and Filmibeat reported a September 11, 2026 release date.
A few months later, though, the director has confirmed the roles of the two female leads, so questions related to their absence from the promotional poster have finally been answered. Rodrigues has said Anukeerthi and Tharnika are more than romantic; they are important characters with a lot to do in action roles, and as such they might be very much part of the film's entertainment and storytelling.
When promotion takes off, people will likely begin to realize the characters and the extent to which the two actresses have played out action roles.
