Anupama Parameswaran has opened up about a painful relationship of the past that came too close to ruining her career and life as a whole. She said the relationship was toxic and involved narcissistic abuse, so controlling behaviour gradually influenced her decisions.

Anupama said the relationship was very quick. The engagement talks were three months after the start of the relationship with the man's family planning for an engagement, she said. But she said he was too young, and that the relationship eventually became difficult.
One of the revelations that has attracted the most attention is her Tamil film Dragon. Anupama said her partner refused to allow her to promote the film, despite it being an important project in her career. She was part of the 2025 Tamil coming-of-age comedy-drama together with Pradeep Ranganathan and Kayadu Lohar.
In recalling the relationship, Anupama described what she called “narcissistic abuse” in the process of around two years. She noted that such relationships might start with intense affection and rapid emotional attachment and then become controlling at first and then get more controlling. She also spoke about what it was like to live with Anniyan, an experience to her emotionally taxing and unpredictable.
She has not named the person involved publicly. Her comments have inspired more online speculation about her previously rumoured relationship with actor Dhruv Vikram. The two were never officially confirmed as a couple, and reports linking her recent comments with Dhruv are still speculation. But neither actor has formally confirmed that he was the person Anupama is talking about.
Anupama’s recent revelations come after she posted emotional posts on social media that led fans to speculate about changes in her personal life. She has since spoken about moving forward, finding peace and regaining a sense of herself after what she described as a painful period.
Her comments resonated with many fans because she used her experience not only to discuss a failed relationship but also to point out that controlling relationships affect confidence, career and personal freedom. She has said that sharing her experience could help others recognise similar patterns in their own lives.
For now, Anupama seems to be focused on rebuilding her life and career on her own terms. While speculation about her former partner's identity continues to follow her online, the actress herself has declined to name him. Her account is a reminder that public figures can also go through incredibly personal struggles away from the public eye, and they need to be careful when assuming something about private relationships.
