Nayanthara’s upcoming Tamil film “Hi” with the talented actor Kavin as her co-star is very much in demand and much of the film’s popularity is going up in the film industry together with fans because of the unique and somewhat unexpected pairing of these two actors. This is all the more so as Nayanthara recently spoke with her fans about the film and told them how it was on the set and the story. They have also compared it to her earlier romantic film “Yaaradi Nee Mohini” (2008), also with Dhanush and has the charismatic actor.

Nayanthara says that “Hi” is deeply emotional and family oriented and is also a more contemporary film and is a bit smaller than those previous works.
Hi is a light-hearted romantic drama with family dynamics and relationships at the heart of the story. It will be released on August 28, 2026 and will be the first screen collaboration of Nayanthara and Kavin, two actors with different styles. Vishnu Edavan is regarded as the director, who is always quite simple and a feel-good storyteller. Edavan wants to make films like “Yaaradi Nee Mohini” and “Santhosh Subramaniam” which are popular in Tamil cinema; that is the kind of movies that have the same warmth and feel.
Nayanthara’s reference to “Yaaradi Nee Mohini” might be particularly meaningful as it is one of her most cherished romantic comedies from the earlier phase of her long career. The film was directed by Mithran R Jawahar and written by Selvaraghavan, which had stars Dhanush and Nayanthara. There is a good balance of romance, comedy, friendship and family bonds in the film but it also does not have a good end to it. It is a popular movie and still enjoys great popularity among Tamil cinema and Nayanthara’s affection for it is much more sentimental.
As part of her promotional interview for "Hi," Nayanthara recalled her time on Yaaradi Nee Mohini, working with her family and the warm and friendly atmosphere in the set. She recalled her chats with actors Radikaa Sarathkumar and Prabhu in the old age and their presence for that and described it like a family meeting. Nayanthara was grateful to work with a film crew who made such a friendly atmosphere, but said she had been a long time since she had such a warm atmosphere on set.
What’s the difference between Hi and Yaaradi Nee Mohini? This is not about making a remake or retelling the same as the original movie in the title sequence. Rather, the similarities are in the tone and emotion and not in the narrative content. Director Vishnu Edavan has been open about inspiration: he has found films in which the stories are sweet and romantic and family-oriented, which he feels connect with the audience. His aim is to make a story that makes them happy as much as the narrative with Nayanthara in mind.
Kavin also shared his thoughts on the project, saying that it was very unexpected. Kavin had previously worked with the director Lokesh Kanagaraj and thought Edavan might have action-oriented characters, so he was very surprised when he found out that the movie was a love story. And Kavin said that working with Nayanthara is a big achievement for him. Kavin recalled watching Yaaradi Nee Mohini in his younger days and did not imagine he would have the capacity to be next to her.
The unconventional casting of Kavin and Nayanthara is definitely one of the reasons that sets “Hi” apart from every Tamil romantic film. Kavin plays Mayilsamy in the movie and Nayanthara plays Devayani. The narrative will be focusing on her and him as they work out their relationship after first meeting. It also has an excellent supporting cast including Radikaa Sarathkumar and Prabhu.
As Vishnu Edavan is getting into the directorial world, it is his first time to make a romantic movie. The movie is not like "Yaaradi Nee Mohini" in terms of an action-heavy structure but a romantic one with a character to it.
As we get closer to our release date of August 28, the buzz for “Hi” is building. Nayanthara’s reference to “Yaaradi Nee Mohini” is a nostalgic touch for Tamil fans and Kavin’s work with one of the most famous actresses in the industry has also attracted interest from younger audiences. If the film does succeed in recapturing the tenderness and charm of the romantic family entertainment films before it, then it will depend on how the audience reacts to its narrative, performances and humor.
For now, Nayanthara’s reflections provide a tantalizing glimpse into the emotional core of the movie. Rather than presenting “Hi” as something grandiose, the filmmakers appear to want a more intimate and contemporary romantic experience. With Nayanthara portraying it as modern and still as much family, a lot of the family-friendly romance that “Yaaradi Nee Mohini” had in its heart is very much present in the film as it is in today's world, I am very hopeful that “Hi” will come along to be both a nostalgic and contemporary Tamil romantic movie to appeal to the masses of people from all ages.
