Ravi Mohan's Mother-in-Law Breaks Silence on ₹40 Lakh Maintenance Claim, Says "I Can't Raise Your Children for You"

The long-standing legal battle between Tamil actor Ravi Mohan and his estranged wife Aarthi Ravi has taken a turn with Aarthi's mother and film producer Sujatha Vijayakumar publicising her dispute in the media about the alleged ₹40 lakh maintenance claim.

In an emotional statement, Sujatha Vijayakumar denied claims that her daughter had made an unreasonable financial demand. She said the maintenance she paid was because of the family’s financial burden, children’s education expenses and debts they had to pick up.

"We have spent about ₹100 crore on making films. We have never taken anyone else’s property,” Sujatha said when the criticism was directed at her family.

Responding to reports that Aarthi demanded ₹40 lakh despite the court reportedly granting only ₹3 lakh, Sujatha said the issue was being presented without proper context.

She said that the maintenance request was never arbitrary.

"We didn’t ask for ₹40 lakh without reason. We are dealing with financial liabilities, including debts that he left behind," she said.

Sujatha further claimed that Ravi Mohan has not financially supported his children for the past two years.

"Not only that, for two years he hasn't contributed to the kids’ expenses—not even for their daily food."

She stressed that raising children is the responsibility of both parents and said she could support her daughter but not replace a father's responsibilities.

"And I can take care of my child, but you must take responsibility for yours. I can’t raise your children for you."

She also said there is no contribution on the children’s school fees or for their everyday living expenses at this time. Sujatha said her family has been struggling to repay debts and has even faced the possibility of their house being seized due to financial pressure.

Another important issue noted in her statement is the children’s education. Sujatha said the court has directed Ravi Mohan to pay the children’s annual school fees of about ₹86 lakh according to her statement. She said when school fees, living expenses and financial liabilities are taken into account, the ₹40 lakh maintenance request becomes easier to understand.

The dispute has generated much debate on social media and in the Tamil film industry and fans of both sides have differing opinions. But the legal process is still on and the final outcome will depend on the court’s decision.

As of now, Ravi Mohan has not publicly responded to Sujatha Vijayakumar's latest remarks.
