Film producer Sujatha Vijaykumar has released her report on the ongoing dispute between her daughter Aarthi and actor Ravi Mohan. Re-phrased recent public talk she said the family had sought ₹40 lakh as monthly maintenance without justification but the fight is about protecting the children’s welfare and future.
Sujatha said the family has been struggling financially and that Ravi Mohan has not given financial support for the children's education and daily expenses for the past two years. School fees, tuition, food, extracurricular activities, and other necessities are being managed without his assistance.
She also said that the family residence received a notice from ICICI Bank, which would have shown they were financially struggling in this period.
The children's education is one of the major issues raised in her statement. Sujatha said both parents together decided to send their children to an American school, where they have been studying since the first standard. According to her, the annual school fee is around ₹86 lakh, and she said that the court has directed that the children’s educational expenses be paid.
Sujatha vehemently denied the claim that Ravi Mohan had been prevented from meeting his children. She said the family itself approached the court seeking visitation rights, and the court has now allowed Ravi Mohan to meet the children every Saturday and Sunday beginning in August.
She added that the children were only uncomfortable to meet their father when another person, whom she called a 'healer,' was there. The children were also open to meeting Ravi Mohan at that time, Sujatha said, in the presence of their grandparents or in a public place.
Sujatha spoke emotionally about her family situation and said her only wish as a mother is for the family to remain united.
"I only want my family to stay together. We didn't get married in secret; we celebrated our marriage with 10 functions attended by nearly 10,000 people," she said.
Sujatha also rejected suggestions that she had relied on Ravi Mohan’s financial resources. She said she built her own career as a producer through external financing and claimed to have invested nearly ₹100 crore in Ravi Mohan’s films, while also ensuring competitive salaries within her production company.
She also revealed that her grandson Aarav has long desired to become an actor after appearing in Tik Tik Tik a long time ago. She also stated that when Aarav wanted to pursue a filmmaking course in London, the passport renewal process required signatures from both parents. But despite many requests, Ravi Mohan's signature was not provided. The family went to court, she said.
In her concluding remarks, Sujatha exhorted families going through separation to manage disputes with dignity and not to make private matters public, particularly when children are involved. She pointed out Jason Sanjay’s words that he would want to work with his father in the future and said that every parent should want their children to speak proudly about them.
Ravi Mohan has made his own public statements about the issue. The legal issues are still being debated and the allegations and claims made by both sides have not been adjudicated by the court.
