Sridevi is widely regarded as the first female superstar in Indian cinema and is one of the most influential and beloved actresses of the world. She was born on 13 August 1963 in Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu. She started her film career as a child artist and later became a big star in films in many languages in India. Sridevi’s career spans over decades and hundreds of movies in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi cinema in which she was able to connect with movie lovers on a worldwide scale, irrespective of language or region.
Sridevi was brought into the entertainment industry as a kid by Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan. Sridevi started in the film industry at four years old as a child and started to work in the industry when she was a kid. She got to see the film Thunaivan in 1967 as a child artist where she appeared as a child in the Tamil movie Thunaivan in 1967.

As a child actress, Sridevi has also made Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films. Her early career taught her to have the confidence and versatility in which her performances would be defined later on. She had so much more than one kind of role and never so much as a single kind of role, and at a very young age she was able to handle emotional drama, comedy, romance and dance-oriented performance.
Sridevi was one of the biggest stars in South Indian cinema in the late 1970s and 80s before becoming a big actor in Bollywood. Bollywood and Hindi cinema only went through her hands and she was just one of the few actors who could make the big movies on her own. After years away from movies, Sridevi made her comeback with English Vinglish (2012) in a very successful way. Her role as a homemaker in need of confidence and independence was so strong that she was able to give an image of herself to a new generation as well.
She followed it with “Mom” (2017) in her last major performance. The film let Sridevi take on this dramatic role again and again proved the range that had established her career. She was well-audited for her performance and received the National Film Award for Best Actress posthumously.
Sridevi has received many awards over the years. The Padma Shri, awarded for her contribution to the Indian film industry in 2013, was among the biggest awards and she received Filmfare Awards and lifetime achievement awards; she is in the top 10 most awarded actresses in Bollywood history.
In her personal life, Sridevi married film producer Boney Kapoor in 1996. The couple had two daughters, Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor, both of whom were into the Indian entertainment industry. Sridevi also had a good family life and she was also able to get into cinema in later years.
Sridevi's life was cut short when she died in Dubai in 2018 at 54 years old. She did leave such a terrible mark on Indian cinema, and millions of film and TV stars had to pay her tribute.
But her legacy continues through her films. Sridevi broke language barriers and defied the expectations of female stardom. She proved that a woman could be the central attraction of a successful film and also provide performances with considerable emotional and artistic depth in a film.
