Vijay Sethupathi and director Balaji Tharaneetharan are back together for Baththa for their third time working together. The film has been announced on August 12 with title and first-look poster of the film and also the Tamil film will go on release on October 1, 2026 worldwide. The project is presented by filmmaker Atlee.
A reunion is especially exciting for Tamil cinema audiences as Vijay Sethupathi and Balaji Tharaneetharan have worked together on Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom and Seethakathi before. Their first film was very successful and had quite a cult following, as well as Seethakathi made quite a different kind of story in which theatre and cinema were involved. Therefore, expectations are high for their third film.
The first-look poster shows Vijay Sethupathi in a retro look with sunglasses, a patterned shirt and a thick gold chain. The film is looking so pretty and there’s a lot of interest with the set and tone of the movie even if it’s not really a well-developed narrative and characters. Atlee’s announcement described the reunion as a promising third-time collaboration.
Baththa is also another collaboration between Vijay Sethupathi and Atlee after their work together on the blockbuster Jawan. But this time Atlee is taking part in the project as a film presenter and producer. The movie is produced by Murad Khetani, Priya Atlee, Alok Jain and Ajit Andhare with Star Studio18 as producers.
The film has a big role for Lijomol Jose. The technical team comprises Sai Abhyankkar as music composer, Selva Kumar SK as cinematographer, R. Kalaivanan as editor and T. Muthuraj as production designer. Balaji Tharaneetharan wrote and directed the film.
Baththa is being released on October 1 so the makers will be able to take advantage of the growing attention on Vijay Sethupathi's new movie. The actor's popularity, Balaji Tharaneetharan's unique storytelling style and Atlee's involvement has made it one of the more eagerly awaited Tamil movies of the year to watch.
The filmmakers also announced that Netflix will be the digital streaming partner for the film and the OTT release is expected after its theatrical run.
