Bigg Boss Kannada Season 13 Faces Permission Hurdle: Bengaluru South DC Says No Application Received
Bigg Boss Kannada Season 13 hit another roadblock before September 6 premiere date as Bangalore South Deputy Commissioner Yashwant Gurukar says the district administration has not received an application seeking permission for the reality show.
The development comes just days before the announced launch of the latest season, so there is much uncertainty as to when the programme will begin. The Bigg Boss setup has already been set up at Jollywood Studios at Bidadi industrial area, but the permissions to conduct the show have not yet been granted according to TV9 Kannada.
Gurukar said the district administration had received no application for permission to conduct the Bigg Boss show. Once an application is received, authorities will take it on the basis of the rules and give the right decision.
The issue is especially relevant as the show is scheduled to premiere on September 6, 2023, with Kichcha Sudeep again as the host. Colors Kannada already promoted the date and promotional activities for the new season are already in progress.
The permission issue also comes in the context of the previous season. Environmental and regulatory issues were found with activities at Jollywood Studios during the previous Bigg Boss season. That raised questions about permissions and compliance for the new edition.
Karnataka Forest Minister Ramalinga Reddy also discussed the issue, saying permission to perform the reality show is mandatory. According to the report, officials would review the information for the application before deciding if permission could be granted.
There appears to have been some progress on environmental approvals. Jollywood received a Consent for Establishment from the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, but the approval was still pending at the board level, said TV9 Kannada, the source said. More action is expected from the pollution control board for that.
So the latest development has made a difference between the show's production preparation and the regulatory permissions required to actually conduct the programme. The set is reportedly ready and the television channel has announced the September 6 premiere; the district administration says it has not received the relevant application.
Bigg Boss Kannada fans are understandably upset. The show has a huge fan base and Sudeep’s return as a host is so important, and the return of Sudeep for another season is one of the big draws of BBK13. And the current season will certainly bring celebrity contestants and common folk along with the audition and selection process that came out earlier this year.
But the latest comments do not necessarily mean that Bigg Boss Kannada Season 13 has been cancelled or officially postponed. The district administration has said it will consider the matter once the application is submitted. So the final decision on the show's permissions and its September 6 launch is subject to the final regulatory process.
Thus, producers and the authorities are expected to be under pressure to solve the problem quickly. Fans are also going to be closely monitoring the situation and waiting for an official reaction from the producers, Colors Kannada or the district administration.
But for now, one thing is clear: Bengaluru South DC Yashwant Gurukar says no application seeking permission to conduct Bigg Boss Kannada Season 13 has been received by the district administration. The show’s September 6 premiere date has been scheduled, but the issue of permission has put things in doubt ahead of time.
