A reality show controversy erupted on a reality show after Shreya Kalra said she was uncomfortable with Ram Kapoor's actions including a cheek kiss during one of the episodes and what she said was a series of times he too often came too close to contestants.
The discussion started after Ram Kapoor kissed Shreya on the cheek after she won a task, which established his place in the competition for the week. Although he was in a celebratory state at the moment, Shreya would later say she didn’t like such displays of affection.
Shreya recalled another incident when Shivangi was performing a task with Shilpa in the locker room with another contestant. Shreya said Ram Kapoor got close to Shivangi, and the contestant Harshad warned him not to be so close. She said Ram offered to apologize after stepping back, but she didn't know if that was the solution.
Shreya said contestants should keep personal boundaries and respect each other's personal space. She said if Ram tried to kiss her again, she would say no and tell him that even her father doesn’t kiss her that much. She said she was trying to set boundaries and that she expected everyone on the show to respect them.
Shreya was also disappointed at her relationship with Ram Kapoor, saying she had been there for him during the competition but did not receive the same support from him. She also condemned what she called the attitude of some senior contestants saying seniority should not be a reason to overlook behavior that makes others uncomfortable.
The remarks have attracted heavy social media discussion with viewers divided on the issue. On the one hand, Shreya was a woman who speaks confidently about consent and personal boundaries but people didn’t want to make conclusions without hearing Ram Kapoor’s side of the story or understanding the full context of the things shown on TV.
Ram Kapoor has not commented on Shreya Kalra's allegations and the producers of the reality show have not publicly responded yet. But the episode has raised a much larger conversation around consent, privacy and respect for reality television.
