As well as the film director Basil Joseph, who has been making news on social media ever since he posted a cryptic post which has fans believe is a secret of working with Telugu superstar Allu Arjun. There has been no official announcement from either side on the collaboration but the cryptic teaser has fuelled speculation that the two could be working together for a huge pan-India program.
The excitement started when Basil Joseph put on his social media accounts a short reel with an “ICON” cap, a star emoji and background music of an Allu Arjun song. Adding to the mystery, the video also showed two blurred people briefly and eagle-eyed fans believe they appeared to be shaking hands. The images were very few but they did cause a lot of discussion on fan communities and entertainment circles.
In reality, social media users began connecting the dots almost immediately. Many thought about the so-called “ICON” cap as a direct reference to Allu Arjun, who is often referred to as the “Icon Star,” both within the film industry and among the fans. And with a song lyric from the actor’s song being used, the post was just a message to tease a collaboration and not a light social media update.
The rumor is even more interesting because this is not the first time Basil Joseph has been associated with Allu Arjun. Earlier that year, Basil visited the pre-wedding celebrations of Allu Sirish, and he was there with members of the Allu family. The filmmaker had already been talking about having a meet-up with the Telugu star.
To add fuel to the speculation, Tovino Thomas, a frequent collaborator and close friend of Basil Joseph, had already hinted in interviews that Basil was preparing for a large-scale pan-India project. So far Tovino did not mention any names, but fans are now wondering if Allu Arjun could be the leading man of that ambitious venture.
Basil Joseph has become one of Malayalam cinema’s most creative filmmakers and has made movies like Minnal Murali, Godha and Kunjiramayanam critically acclaimed and commercially successful so far with Malayalam movies, in the form of Minnal Murali, Godha and Kunjiramayanam. And the way his storytelling style of merging fantasy, comedy, emotion and action has won him a huge amount of love in India. What are those fans of his style of filmmaking and what his approach would be ideal to help Allu Arjun's filmmaking to be a bigger screen presence for his huge screen presence?
Industry reports suggest that if the collaboration actually happens, it could be fantasy-action entertainment for a pan-India audience. But this is speculation as neither Basil Joseph nor Allu Arjun have even announced any project together.
Both artists have packed schedules. Basil Joseph is already doing acting and movie directorial gigs, including Raaka, while Allu Arjun is working on his anticipated projects after Pushpa 2: The Rule's huge success, including his much-talked-about AA24.
Until such an official announcement is made fans will have to see the latest social media activity as an intriguing teaser rather than confirmation. But the prospect of Basil Joseph heading up Allu Arjun is much more exciting as a collaboration can be said to produce one of the most ambitious pan-India movies of recent years.
But at present, all we know is that the cryptic post has done one thing—it has made a lot of fans hopeful that the speculation will eventually come true.
