Chennai Love Story is a romantic drama with Kiran Abbavaram and Sri Gouri Priya as the stars to watch for the beauty, innocence and heartbreak of first love. Ravi Namburii was the director and Sai Rajesh Neelam the screenwriter of the film and it came out with great expectations after Baby. The early reviews point out that it doesn’t quite have the emotional impact of Baby but it is a charming romantic comedy with great roles and a lot of good music.
The story
The film is based on Steven Shankar (Kiran Abbavaram) and Nivi (Sri Gouri Priya), two young people brought together by chance as they are brought together by sudden and unexpected circumstances. What starts as a friendship eventually blossoms into love but there are emotional obstacles they deal with as well, which test their trust, resilience and commitment in their relationship with each other, and it is difficult for both to trust it; when their relationship starts to grow into love, but also a love relationship.
Our story is one of contemporary relationships, heartbreak, healing, second chances and love story in some ways that blends romance (and, sometimes, emotional drama) and still has a good heart of emotion. The set-up is pretty much the same but the screenplay does try to keep you invested through personal experiences and relatable characters.
Performances
Kiran Abbavaram gives a more mature performance and shows the emotional journey of his character sincerely. Sri Gouri Priya does a good job of playing a strong, emotional woman and comes across with some depth in her emotionally charged role. Their on-screen chemistry is definitely one of the film’s most effective elements and elevates a few points of the film.
As the supporting cast also does a very good job, and the orchestral score by Mani Sharma has a melodious soundtrack to the emotions and a memorable background score to it.
What Works
The film is emotional in the end and the performances are good. Ravi Namburii keeps the story simple and allows the relationship between the two protagonists to be the center point. Mani Sharma’s music adds a touch of soul to the narrative and the cinematography is so perfect that you will be able to feel that the romantic atmosphere is achieved.
And the second half contains emotional weight and features some of the most powerful scenes for the audience. Early audience response has been pretty positive and many have expressed their thanks to the film’s direction, music and performances.
What Doesn't Work
The film isn’t very emotional, but its story is fairly predictable. Some parts of the first half move at a slower pace and a few scenes are very long. Some of the story beats you’re expecting an entirely new take on romance will be familiar.

Chennai Love Story is a good romantic drama for lovers. It doesn’t really change the genre but it has enough emotional depth, great performances and memorable music which should be the end result. If you like good love stories and it has the emotional resonance, this movie will surely give you an emotional lift.
