Gautam Ghattamaneni Gives Toxic Just 0.5 Stars: Mahesh Babu’s Son’s Letterboxd Ratings Spark Social Media Buzz
Gautam Ghattamaneni, son of Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu, has found himself at the centre of an unexpected online debate after his Letterboxd rating for Yash’s Toxic attracted movie buffs. The 20-year-old gives the Geetu Mohandas-produced action gangster drama just 0.5 stars, one of the lowest ratings on the platform.
Although Gautam’s rating is a matter of personal taste, it’s a topic of interest among fans because of his family background as well as his apparent interest in cinema. Social media users have been tracking his Letterboxd activity and wondering if the low score means he has a bad opinion of Toxic or simply reflects his style of review.
Toxic, which stars Yash as a lead, alongside Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi and Tara Sutaria, was released on August 26. The film has received much attention since it came out in theatres and audience members have been divided in its narrative, ambitious visual display and treatment of its gangster-world setting.
Why Gautam’s 0.5-Star Rating Got Attention
The biggest reason Gautam’s rating has generated so much interest is that he’s not a regular moviegoer in the eyes of the public. Being Mahesh Babu’s son naturally means that his opinions on films, particularly major South Indian releases, attract additional scrutiny.
Some social media users praised Gautam for being honest about his opinions albeit his family’s deep connections to the film industry. Others have felt that Toxic deserves more than just half a star, given the size of the film and Yash’s popularity following the success of the KGF franchise.
But Gautam’s Letterboxd history suggests that his rating for Toxic is not necessarily linked to the film’s star cast or its status as a major commercial release. Instead, his ratings suggest that he seems comfortable being highly critical of movies he doesn’t like.
Gautam has also been critical of Mahesh Babu films
Interestingly, Gautam’s rating for his own father's movies is perhaps the clearest indication that he does not automatically give high scores to films simply because of personal connections.
Among Mahesh Babu’s movies, Gautam has awarded five stars to Pokiri and 1: Nenokkadine. At the other end of the scale, Nijam and Vamsi received two stars each, while Brahmotsavam was just one star.
These ratings have become part of the talk about his Toxic score. If Gautam were just rating movies with major stars, his own father’s filmography would have been consistently higher. Instead, his profile has a very wide range of ratings.
That has led some movie enthusiasts to say that he seems to judge films independently rather than allow celebrity status to determine his scores.
His Letterboxd profile shows Diverse Movie Preferences
Gautam’s interest in cinema also seems to go beyond Telugu films. His Letterboxd profile has ratings for over 400 movies from different languages, genres and film industries and gives a better sense of his taste in movies.
He has awarded five stars to films like Sholay, Project Hail Mary, Knives Out and Jersey. SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2 also received five stars from him. Pelli Choopulu and Sita Ramam have 4.5 stars while Eega has four stars.
His ratings for newer Indian releases have also varied considerably. Dhurandhar received four stars, while Dhurandhar: The Revenge got three stars. Ravi Teja-starrer Irumudi was rated three stars while Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Dc got four stars.
This wide range of ratings means that Gautam’s film preferences cannot be categorised by language, star power or budget.
Toxic Is Not The Only Film to Get 0.5 Stars
Another interesting fact that has emerged from his Letterboxd activity is that Vijay Deverakonda's Liger also received only half a star from Gautam.
The comparison has helped put his Toxic rating into perspective. Rather than being an isolated low score for a Yash film, the rating appears to be part of a larger pattern in which Gautam occasionally gives extremely low scores to movies that fail to impress him.
For fans, this has made his Letterboxd account an unusual source of entertainment and discussion. His ratings for movies starring some of the biggest names in Indian cinema have encouraged users to examine his profile and debate his choices.
Toxic continues its theatrical run and has received mixed reviews from the audience. Geetu Mohandas’s move into a big action gangster drama is also highlighted and Yash is playing a big part following his KGF success. With its polarizing reception, Gautam’s half-star rating just further adds to the ever-changing film’s debate.
