Ram Charan as Lord Krishna in Laalo Telugu Remake? Here’s What We Know
Gujarati cinema's surprise blockbuster Laalo - Krishna Sada Sahayate is on its way to Telugu cinema, and the remake has already created much buzz. It is now in the works, with actor Ram Charan being considered for a special appearance as Lord Krishna.
As per the industry report, producer Mahavir Jain is in talks to bring the Gujarati hit to the Telugu film industry. Karthik Subbaraj is also being seen as a possibility to direct the adaptation, but this project remains under discussion, and there is no official announcement about Ram Charan, Mahavir Jain or Karthik Subbaraj.
Ram Charan’s Possible Krishna Cameo
The most interesting aspect of the reported Telugu remake is the possibility for Ram Charan to portray Lord Krishna.
RRR star is likely to be a special cameo rather than the central protagonist in this film, sources say. The character is planned as a contemporary and charismatic interpretation of Krishna but still to have the spiritual significance of the character in the story.
If the casting is indeed to take place, Ram Charan’s presence could heighten the curiosity of the Telugu adaptation. His popularity with Telugu-speaking viewers and his growing national recognition could also help the remake to attract more viewers outside the traditional Telugu market.
For now, the actor still cannot be confirmed.
Laalo became a Gujarati Box Office Sensation
The remake discussions come after the extraordinary theatrical success of Laalo - Krishna Sada Sahayate.
The Gujarati film was released in October 2025, directed by Ankit Sakhiya. Although the movie opened without the kind of massive numbers normally associated with blockbuster releases, it gradually caught on through word of mouth.
Its production budget is estimated to be around ₹50 lakh, while its box office earnings have crossed the ₹100-crore barrier. India Today reported more than ₹122 crore in earnings, and Ormax 2025 All-India Box Office Report estimated India gross for the film to be about ₹114 crore.
The film has been widely referred to as the highest-grossing Gujarati movie and the first Gujarati film to cross the ₹100-crore mark.
And the film's strong run went well past the first weeks. The Times of India earlier reported that the movie got a strong eighth-weekend performance of around ₹5.15 crore.
What Is Laalo - Krishna Sada Sahayate About?
Laalo - Krishna Sada Sahayate is based on a story of faith, emotional turmoil, and redemption.
The film tells the story of a troubled rickshaw driver who finds himself locked in a farmhouse and confronted by painful memories from his past. As he struggles with his inner conflicts, he begins to see visions of Lord Krishna.
The story then looks at him and his faith and his spiritual journey and journey to discovery and redemption. Laalo is not a mythological movie, but instead Krishna plays an important spiritual and emotional role in the film.
The film has Reeva Rachh, Shruhad Goswami, Karan Joshi, Mishty Kadecha, Anshu Joshi, Kinnal Nayak, Parul Rajyaguru and Jaydeep Timaniya in major roles.
Karthik Subbaraj Reportedly in Consideration
Another major name associated with the proposed Telugu adaptation is filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj.
The director is known for merging different kinds of narrative with mainstream narrative films. His filmography includes Jigarthanda, Petta and Mahaan, amongst others.
If Subbaraj eventually comes on board, his approach would bring a new visual and narrative style to the Telugu version while keeping the emotional and spiritual core of the original.
But his involvement is also yet to be officially confirmed.
Hindi version expanded the reach of the film.
After having a successful Gujarati theatrical run, Laalo - Krishna Sada Sahayate expanded its audience with a Hindi-dubbed theatrical release in January 2026.
The proposed Telugu remake could take the film to an even wider audience, particularly if the Ram Charan and Karthik Subbaraj scenario takes place.
So far, the project is still in development and the discussion stage. Ram Charan’s Krishna cameo or Karthik Subbaraj’s directorial involvement has not yet been confirmed.
If the remake does happen eventually, Ram Charan’s appearance as a modern Lord Krishna could become one of its biggest talking points, giving the Gujarati sleeper a new identity for Telugu cinema.
