The Paradise Ticket Prices: Three Proposals Being Considered Ahead of Release

Ani's eagerly awaited upcoming film, The Paradise, is generating strong early buzz in the North American market, with bookings already showing major early momentum and North American box office predictions now looking very strong. The film has already achieved an impressive early buzz in North America by recording a rapid $150,000 in pre-sales from one movie chain while also leading the way for a strong opening at the overseas box office, which means that it is expected to be more likely to do very well and be a movie with worldwide box office success when it comes out.

Three Proposals Under Discussion

With the North American premiere on the way to the $1.5 million mark and the possibility of crossing $2 million also being discussed, attention has now turned to another important issue - ticket pricing in the domestic market.

Three Ticket Pricing Proposals Under Discussion

The Paradise makers are currently considering three different options in terms of ticket prices, the report says.

One should avoid ticket price hikes at all. With audiences coming back to cinemas more and more and an increase in ticket prices being a reason for better theatrical footfalls, prices have to be the same.

The second is a modest increase in ticket prices across single-screen theatres and multiplexes. Ticket prices could be increased by ₹50 for single screens and ₹75 for multiplexes in this way.

As distributors and buyers will say, the film’s relatively high selling prices in different parts of the world could justify a moderate ticket price hike. They say a small increase could even help to boost the film’s theatrical success.

Third Proposal Focuses Only on Multiplexes

A third option that is more targeted is more targeted. Under the proposed plan, multiplex ticket prices will go up from ₹295 to ₹350, and single-screen ticket prices will remain the same.

On paper, the ₹55 increase may be beneficial to the producer. However, the actual additional revenue coming to the producer could be significantly lower given GST and the multiplexes' share.

According to the proposal being discussed here, the producer could receive only about ₹25-₹30 from the ₹55 increase after deduction and revenue sharing on the basis of the required deductions and revenue sharing.

There is another financial consideration. The producer would pay around ₹1 crore to the government for the ticket-price hike. And that has led the producers to consider if raising prices would make enough money to justify the cost.

Ticket Pricing has an impact on recovery

A big-budget film like The Paradise therefore needs to be priced well to allow for accessibility and theatrical recovery to happen.

If the makers want to get more people to come back to watch the film, keeping prices unchanged might encourage more people to watch it, and if they want to get a lot of footfalls and get good word-of-mouth during the opening period, they will have to keep them to watch and promote it.

So an even small increase in ticket price can be a boost in revenue when multiplied out over a large number of screenings and audiences. The question is whether the additional profit will be overpriced and will make it less affordable for moviegoers.

Final Decision Expected Soon

The makers are considering all three proposals before coming to a final decision. The decision will be made in the next one or two days, after considering audiences, exhibitors, distributors and the producer's overall recovery.

The North American advance sales, on the other hand, have made The Paradise seem more and more eagerly awaited. If the overseas momentum continues and we also can attract strong domestic footfalls, the ticket price will be very important in deciding its overall theatrical performance.

The big question is whether the makers will opt for a very low price and more footfalls or a moderate price hike to increase the revenue per ticket. The final call will be forthcoming soon.
