The film’s upcoming horror-comedy Korean Kanakaraju has received a major boost ahead of its theatrical release and has got an additional boost with the non-theatrical rights of around ₹26 crore through non-theatrical rights to the film, and was also said to be a gamechanger for Varun Tej’s upcoming horror comedy Korean Kanakaraju and TV channel. The deal covers OTT, satellite, music and Hindi dubbing rights, which accounts for almost 70% of the estimated ₹38 crore production budget of the movie.

With most of the investment already recovered before releasing it, the makers need only to generate ₹12-15 crore from the theatrical run to enter the profit zone. This makes Korean Kanakaraju a relatively low-risk venture for producers UV Creations and First Frame Entertainments.
Directed by Merlapaka Gandhi, this film is said to be a unique mix of horror, comedy and Korean pop-culture influences. Varun Tej plays the character Kanakaraju, a rustic boy from Anantapur, whose journey is a K-drama and local flavor and stylish appeal like the best of K-dramas. Ritika Nayak plays the female lead and popular comedian Satya is also expected to provide comic relief in a supporting role.
So too is the music by S. Thaman, whose energetic background scores and chart-topping songs are popular in recent Telugu blockbusters. When the release date is over we can expect a huge promotional campaign from the makers.
The film will be released worldwide on August 7, 2026, and industry members say it's a quirky concept and the genre mix might attract both family and younger viewers.
Korean Kanakaraju is a very big moment for Varun Tej. After his box office performances are not that good, he is looking forward to coming back with a fresh and unconventional comedy. The good pre-release business shows distributors and digital platforms are confident even with the mixed commercial performance of his recent films.
Trade analysts point out that recovering nearly 70% of the budget through non-theatrical rights significantly reduces financial pressure on the theatrical release. The film could in essence be profitable if a decent opening and positive word of mouth are generated.
The unique narrative, technical crew, established production houses and strong pre-release business have led to a lot of interest in the project. The trailer and the promotional piece will be forthcoming to give us a preview of the film’s weird horror comedy world.
For all the success and commercial potential, Korean Kanakaraju is going to be one of the most anticipated Telugu releases in August 2026.
