Bollywood actor Govinda has spoken out about one of the most painful moments of his life, recalling the pain of his mother Nirmala Devi’s death in 1996. He said that he was overwhelmed by grief after her death and, in an emotional state, entered the Narmada River because he wanted to see his mother again.

Govinda recalled the very difficult time of his life when he lost his mother. Nirmala Devi was not only his parent but also an emotional force and a counselor. Her death left him devastated and the actor said he wanted to be reunited with her.
Govinda recalled that he went to the Narmada River and was all tormented by these emotions. The situation could have ended tragically if a sadhu had intervened to lift him out of the river. That experience was a turning point for the actor and it made him look at his life and the responsibilities he still had to his family.
Govinda has often spoken about the love he had for his mother and how much she had to do with his life and career. Nirmala Devi was his lifeline in the beginning days and her guidance was so crucial to him even when he became the biggest star in Hindi cinema. Losing her thus had a huge impact on him.
Govinda also thought about what he had to do in the company of people who counted on him. The sadhu's intervention in this matter, he said, made him look at his life differently and encouraged him to continue on and not remain in grief.
His recollection shows us very deeply what the emotional pain of losing someone is like. And it also shows us how a simple little thing that is done by somebody can go in a life-changing way at a very vulnerable moment.
Govinda eventually came back into the film industry and has gone on to do so, with many successful films, and become one of the most popular actors in Bollywood. His story of the Narmada River is one of the most emotional stories of his life and we see a side of Govinda that's far from the comic actor and on-screen charisma.
