The highly anticipated Ramayana has begun attracting attention beyond India, with the film's trailer officially launched in China ahead of its global theatrical release. The Chinese release carries the title “罗摩衍那:王子传奇”, introducing audiences to director Nitesh Tiwari's ambitious two-part adaptation of the ancient Indian epic.

Backed by Prime Focus Studios and designed as a large-scale international cinematic spectacle, Ramayana is being positioned as one of the biggest Indian film projects ever attempted. The film is being developed with IMAX presentation in mind, with its makers aiming to create a visually immersive experience for audiences across international markets.

The trailer launch in China is particularly significant because the country has previously shown strong interest in Indian cinema. Nitesh Tiwari's earlier blockbuster Dangal became one of the most successful Indian films in China, earning enormous popularity among Chinese audiences. That history has created additional curiosity around his latest project.

The Chinese promotional campaign features striking imagery of Rama, Ravana and other important characters from the Ramayana, giving viewers a glimpse into the scale of the production. The visual treatment has reportedly prompted comparisons with large-scale international mythological and historical epics, including classics such as The Odyssey.

Ramayana is planned as a two-part film franchise, with the first instalment expected to reach theatres during the Diwali 2026 period. The production is being mounted with an international audience in mind, and reports suggest that the makers are targeting an exceptionally wide theatrical rollout.

The film's international strategy is one of its most ambitious aspects. Reports have suggested plans for a release across tens of thousands of screens worldwide, potentially making it one of the largest global theatrical launches for an Indian film. The Chinese market is therefore an important part of the film's international promotional campaign.

The story itself is based on one of India's most influential epics and follows the journey of Lord Rama, his exile, his relationship with Sita, his alliance with Hanuman and the eventual confrontation with Ravana. While the basic story is deeply familiar to Indian audiences, the filmmakers are attempting to present it with a modern cinematic scale and international production standards.

The project has attracted attention not only because of its subject but also because of its reported technical ambition. With advanced visual effects, large-scale sets and IMAX-focused presentation, Ramayana is being positioned as a global Indian spectacle rather than a conventional mythological film.

The trailer's arrival in China could therefore be an important step in introducing the story to a wider international audience. If the Chinese response continues to grow, the market could become an important contributor to the film's global theatrical performance.

With November release plans, a two-part structure and an international theatrical strategy, Ramayana is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched Indian films of 2026. The makers will now be looking to convert the growing trailer buzz into strong advance interest across India and overseas markets.
