Scam 2010 Begins Production With Siddharth Bodke as Subrata Roy

Sony LIV has officially started production on Scam 2010 - The Subrata Roy Saga, the latest in the popular Scam franchise. Directed by Hansal Mehta, the series will explore the extraordinary rise, immense influence and eventual downfall of Sahara India founder Subrata Roy.

Marathi actor Siddharth Bodke has been cast in the lead role and portrayed Roy through his life years. The series is based on journalist and writer Tamal Bandyopadhyay's book and will trace Roy's rise from humble beginnings to one of India's largest business empires.

The story will be about Roy's entrepreneurial ambitions, his expanding business network and the immense popularity he enjoyed at the height of his career. It will also touch on the controversies surrounding Sahara India and the legal battles that eventually led to Roy being arrested in 2014. Subrata Roy died in 2023.

Hansal Mehta’s next project is to explore money, ambition, power and influence. The filmmaker has described the story as one in which ambition becomes great influence and ultimately arrogance and consequences.

Siddharth Bodke will also undergo a major transformation for the role. Speaking to us about the character, portraying Subrata Roy is a thrilling opportunity because there are so many layers to the businessman’s life. Roy is love and ambition, power but also failure and eventually comes down on the other side.

Production is currently in progress, and the makers are likely to have filmed in real locations based on events from Roy’s life. The series will be more realistic and the different periods covered in the story will be recreated.

The announcement has generated much interest because Scam 2010 follows the success of earlier instalments in Hansal Mehta's Scam universe. The franchise has examined major financial scandals through detailed storytelling, combining real events with dramatic narratives.

But Scam 2010 will be emotionally and narrative-oriented. Rather than the series’ focus on a financial storm, it’s going to look at the man behind the empire, how he became powerful and how he was able to rise and become very powerful and the circumstances leading to the end of his business career.

Sony LIV will release Scam 2010 next year (but haven’t announced a date of when it will be released yet). Now that the movie’s filming has begun, we expect to see more of the cast in more detail on the cast, production scale and first look material in the next few months.
