Elon Musk has once again criticized the upcoming documentary Musk by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney, describing it as a “hit piece” ahead of its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival.
The documentary, which has a length of 232 minutes, will premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September and will then play at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2026. The film is set for a U.S. theatrical release on October 16, and is one of the most discussed documentaries of the year.
Elon Musk didn’t participate in the production of the documentary. Musk had previously vetoed the project almost three years ago and argued that the movie was “phony” and that it was a “hit piece” to him when he was already calling it “a biased portrayal” of his life and career.
Alex Gibney, who has made documentaries and Oscar-winning movies as well and has also written in his own right, will feature Musk in a variety of industries (e.g., electric vehicles, space exploration, artificial intelligence, and social media). Gibney is well known for researching and making the case for documentaries about complex topics through his long-form storytelling, so he will try to put Tesla’s accomplishments and controversies on paper, and the documentary is expected to be a big deal.
