The much-awaited ‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups’ has been given the Telangana government’s approval for higher ticket prices in the Nizam region just a day before its theatrical release. The GO will provide greater clarity on ticket pricing of the Yash-starrer after much speculation and uncertainty surrounding the release-day rates.
As per the recent government order, single-screen theatres in Telangana’s Nizam region can increase ticket prices by ₹50 including GST. Multiplexes and special theatres can charge an additional ₹100 over the existing ticket prices.
The revised ticket rates will be in effect from August 26 to September 4 for the first 10 days of the film’s theatrical run. This allows theatres to screen the movie on five regular shows per day during this period.
Telangana Government Clears Ticket Price Hike
The approval will bring some relief to exhibitors and the makers of Toxic, since the film will go on release worldwide on August 26.
For the Nizam region, ticket pricing is an ongoing issue because of the film’s scale and the huge attention to Yash’s return to the big screen after the success of the KGF franchise.
Now that the government has given the go-ahead, theatres can start to work on the higher prices during the first 10 days.
The ₹50 hike for an individual screen and ₹100 for multiplexes and special theatres would help to promote the movie’s premium position and allow exhibitors to make money at the crucial opening moment.
Makers Directed to Contribute ₹1 Crore
The makers of Toxic have also been directed to contribute ₹1 crore to the Telugu Film Industry Employees’ Welfare Committee account operated by the Film Development Corporation (FDC).
The contribution will be utilised for the welfare of workers in the Telugu film industry. This condition adds a welfare component to the government’s permission for the ticket price enhancement.
The move also highlights the wider role of the film industry in supporting technicians, workers and other professionals who contribute to film production and exhibition.
Anti-Drug and Cybercrime Awareness Messages
The government has also ordered theatres screening Toxic to run advertisements highlighting the harmful effects of narcotics and drugs, and messages creating awareness about cybercrime.
These awareness advertisements will be aired as part of the conditions attached to the permission for the enhanced ticket prices.
