Kannada superstar Yash recalled an old comment by actress Rashmika Mandanna who once called him a ‘show-off’ and said ‘I don’t let someone else’s views define me.’ When Rashmika was young, she made this comment in front of the film’s audience. Now she is in the process of working with Yash.

Rashmika had made the "show-off" comment earlier in her career when she was a huge pan-Indian celebrity. The comment later attracted the interest of Yash fans because he has become so popular with the KGF franchise.
Rashmika later apologized to Yash for it and said she appreciated the actor. The episode has remained in people’s mind over the years as a reminder of how comments made in interviews can become very much a thing when they’re made public and are shared with fans and with social media.
Yash, however, appears to have been a bit measured. Instead of letting his opinion of himself be influenced by someone’s, the actor has stressed the idea of knowing who one is and knowing oneself. His claim that “somebody’s opinion will not be my personality” is indicative of a more general attitude towards criticism: external assessment is a thing, but it doesn’t make up who we are.
The comment is quite relevant to Yash’s journey in the entertainment business. The actor had a long career in Kannada cinema before getting national recognition with KGF: Chapter 1 and KGF: Chapter 2. The two films made him a pan-Indian actor and he is now one of the most popular and well-known actors in Indian action cinema. And with that popularity came heavy public scrutiny which took over almost every aspect of his professional and public image.
For celebrities, criticism can be hard to separate from what they do. Actors are often discussed frequently by audiences, journalists and social media users, and a casual comment can be interpreted as a clear diagnosis of the character.
Yash’s answer suggests that he prefers to separate opinion from personal perception of himself from what someone thinks of him and to understand oneself.
Rashmika has seen a similarly dramatic rise in popularity. After making her first appearance in the Kannada film Kirik Party she worked in Telugu cinema before going to Tamil and Hindi films. Her films like Geetha Govindam, Dear Comrade, Pushpa: The Rise, Animal and Pushpa 2: The Rule have helped her to attract a large audience in different parts of India. And her growing popularity has also made comments from her previous career more likely to surface online.
The old exchange is now viewed with a very different lens. Both Yash and Rashmika are very much on the way in both careers in the present day. Yash is now a very popular pan-Indian action star while Rashmika is one of the famous actresses working in various Indian film industries.
Yash’s answer also reflects on a larger issue involving celebrity culture and social media. Public figures are constantly under attack from people who think of them as ‘needing to improve’ in their own ways and that they need to do so. Feedback from others is helpful but as an artist, their own labels can get too much of a hold on them. The actor’s take on this situation is that clarity of self in that situation is important.
Yash’s public status and his confidence and independence have more than ever been associated with this statement. His career has been a slow rise, as opposed to an overnight success. Before KGF brought him global attention, he had already worked in the Kannada cinema and had a loyal audience. Years in the industry might have affected his attitude towards praise and criticism.
For fans, the Rashmika comment has revived the debate over two stars of the same regional film industry who have since become stars in local cinema. There is no evidence that the old comment is a dispute between the actors. Yash’s comments seem to be more about the larger idea that an individual’s identity should not be determined by the opinion of someone else.
That episode also demonstrates how quickly old celebrity comments can return to public attention. Years ago interviews can be unearthed, clipped and circulated on social media, sometimes long after the people involved have moved on. In such cases context matters, especially when statements were made early in a celebrity’s career.
Yash’s response as a whole is less so about the old “show-off” comment than how he decides to respond to the opinions of others. His assertion that another person’s opinion does not define his personality reflects an attitude of self-confidence and individual identity.
As both Yash and Rashmika go into and out of their careers, the old episode seems more like a minor point from their early walk in life and less a sign of a great war.
