The much anticipated Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups had passed a major pre-release mark after getting an ‘A’ certificate from the censor authority. The Yash-starrer has also been released at a longer runtime of 3 hours and 14 minutes, so far the longest of all the big Indian movies in recent years.

The certification and runtime information have added another layer of interest to the project which is about to be released in the world on August 26, 2026.

Toxic is one of the most watched Indian films since it was announced by Geetu Mohandas. It will mark Yash’s return to the big screen after the huge success of the KGF franchise, so there’s high expectation from audiences throughout India and around the world.

The ‘A’ certificate indicates that the film is only intended for adult audiences. While the certification does not reveal the whole content, it does imply that the film contains material that is unsuitable for viewers below the age limit under India’s film certification guidelines.

Toxic being such a dark and intense action movie will make it more interesting for fans. The movie’s title, subtitle and promotional material have already indicated that this world is one of violence, power, crime, and complicated relationships.

The reported 3-hour-14-minute runtime is another significant talking point. Toxic is 194 minutes long and so the filmmakers have a lot of time to develop the narrative, characters and action sequences.

Long runtimes are challenging for filmmakers, but, thanks to its long duration, they can allow ambitious narratives to breathe when the extra screen time is used well. The extended length of a big action drama like Toxic would allow more time for big set pieces, character building and emotional moments.

Yash leads the film and Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth are among the actors and actresses in the ensemble. The combination of established actors and a filmmaker who has a unique style of storytelling has been a big attraction for this project.

The worldwide release strategy with the movie will help make August 26 a big date for the Indian film industry. Yash has built a large fan base outside Karnataka with KGF films, and Toxic will be able to capitalise on that pan-India popularity.

But the ‘A’ certification will also mean younger people won’t be able to watch it in theaters. The adult audience is very important for the film’s theatrical prospects.

Now that the certification is complete, the makers can focus on the final promotional push. Trailers, songs, interviews and other promotional activities are expected to dominate the campaign as the release date approaches.

Such a runtime could also impact the timing of screenings of movies and the number of daily screenings in theaters. A 194-minute film requires longer screening time than shorter releases and exhibitors will need to work their schedule in such a way as to make sure the time is extended, particularly in the most demanding markets.

As such, the combination of Yash's star power, Geetu Mohandas' direction and the film's large-scale presentation has generated considerable pre-release interest.

The latest certification update provides audiences with two important pieces of information: Toxic has received an ‘A’ certificate, and its theatrical runtime stands at 3 hours and 14 minutes.

Now the big question is whether the film’s grand scale and long runtime will translate into a good theatrical experience. And fans will not have to wait much longer.

Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups is released in cinemas worldwide on August 26, 2026.
