Dulquer Salmaan’s ‘I’m Game’ Faces Reported CBFC Censor Hurdle Over Gambling References

Dulquer Salmaan’s much-anticipated ‘I’m Game’ is reportedly facing a censor hurdle as the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has objected to some words and visuals connected with gambling. The movie will be under the microscope if the makers want to receive a U/A certificate instead of an A certificate, reports.

The development is of great interest because gambling is an integral part of the storyline of the film. The trailer has already presented the film as a high-stakes thriller against betting and gambling and Dulquer Salmaan playing a character in that world.

The reported CBFC observations could therefore present a very interesting challenge for the filmmakers. Changing some of the language and imagery might help the film attract a wider audience, particularly younger viewers who can see a U/A-certified film with parental supervision. But the filmmakers also have to ensure that any changes do not affect the film’s storytelling or the atmosphere around the central theme.

At the moment, the reported censor-related changes have not been independently confirmed through an official CBFC statement in the sources reviewed. Thus, it is not yet clear whether the makers have mutually agreed to the suggested modifications or whether the certification process is still ongoing.

The timing is especially important because ‘I’m Game’ is going to go global on September 3, 2026. The film was already announced as an Onam release before its release was postponed to September for a bigger audience.

Directed by Nahas Hidhayath, the film stars Dulquer Salmaan as the main character with Mysskin, Antony Varghese, Kayadu Lohar, Kathir, Parth Tiwari and Samyuktha Viswanathan as other prominent actors. The film is produced under the Wayfarer Films banner by Dulquer Salmaan and Jom Varghese.

The film’s promotional material has already generated curiosity because of its unusual subject. The trailer is all about high-stakes gambling, betting, gangster drama, and gangster wars, promising a thriller with a different setting for Malayalam cinema.

For the makers, the certification issue may be due to preserving some creative elements or the issue of the larger certification. A U/A certificate might be able to make the film more accessible for wider family and youth audiences, while an A certificate would be restricted to adults.

Whether the team will accept the CBFC suggestions or should seek certification with minimal changes remains to be seen. Any final decision could be a big factor in the pre-release buzz of the film.

For now, fans will see whether ‘I’m Game’ changes to the movie will be made but the gambling-related content that is a central component of the movie’s storyline will not be removed. It will be released worldwide on September 3, 2026.
