Dhanush's upcoming film OM is reportedly facing a release date dilemma as the makers attempt to avoid a direct box office clash with Superstar Rajinikanth's highly anticipated Jailer 2. The film was originally scheduled to hit theatres on October 16, coinciding with the Ayudha Pooja weekend. However, the announcement of Jailer 2 for October 15 has prompted the team to explore a new release window during Diwali.
According to industry reports, the makers of OM believe that shifting the film to the Diwali festival could provide a better opportunity at the box office. However, the move is proving to be challenging due to the film's existing digital rights agreement with Netflix.
Reports suggest that Netflix has informed the production team that, under the terms of its streaming deal, OM is contractually required to release in theatres on October 16. Any postponement could disrupt the platform's planned digital premiere schedule, making it difficult for the makers to alter the theatrical release date without Netflix's approval.
Adding to the complexity, Ramayana, one of the most anticipated Indian films of the year, is also expected to release during the Diwali festival.
