H. Vinoth Calls Jana Nayagan 'CM Vijay's First Film !! Not Last Film
H. Vinoth has also offered a different perspective on Vijay’s eagerly awaited film Jana Nayagan, as he has described the film as “CM Vijay’s first film,” when you see it as not the actor's last film in cinema but rather as his first film with CM Vijay. His words have sparked widespread discussion, especially as Vijay prepares to focus on his political career.
H. Vinoth said in an interview with Cinema Vikatan that it's too early to say Jana Nayagan is Vijay's last film. "Whether this is really his last film, no one can say for sure. But you could say this is CM Vijay sir's first film," the director said, hinting at the actor's transition from cinema to politics.
Vinoth said Jana Nayagan is so much more than a commercial movie. According to him, the film is a serious political drama that deals with sensitive matters, not just with the lead actor. “This is not just some commercial movie. It is a really important political film. It is not to glorify Vijay sir. It talks about very sensitive politics," he said.
The movie will be a big deal and I think it will spark a great deal of discussion among the audience," he said. The film will also have the potential to make people think, he said, and that even those who know the political themes covered in the film will have a new perspective upon viewing it. “I think this movie will spark a lot of discussion. If the movie is successful, we will be successful as filmmakers,” Vinoth said.
Vinoth demonstrated the depth of the screenplay to me: about 30 minutes of the movie contains so much political content that you have to pay attention to that half hour. Then you can go back to that half hour again and again and find new layers of meaning in there. And you can even study it for a year, because there is so much content inside it," he said.
The director also had an interesting behind-the-scenes story to tell. Before approaching Vijay, he had narrated the story to another actor, who he declined to name. The actor, after hearing the political elements and the first half of the script, was apparently suspicious whether such a film would work commercially. "He asked, 'Will it work in our place?' I said, 'I don't know, sir. We'll see.' After that, he didn't speak further about doing the film," Vinoth said with a smile.
Vinoth explained the significance of the title Jana Nayagan in relation to Vijay's political life. He referred to the actor's iconic selfie taken during the Neyveli rally as the "first look" of Jana Nayagan. The director said the title symbolizes Vijay as “the people’s hero” and the protagonist in the film who stands up to defend democracy.
As H. Vinoth had described Jana Nayagan as a politically driven film with an engaging, layered story, the anticipation has gotten ever more intense. With Vijay embarking on a new stage of public life, the film will be one of the most eagerly awaited Tamil movies of the year.
